Is it possible to measure the average speed within a zone?

I have created zones in Mygeotab and I want to know the average speed at which the units drive within them.

Hello @****-6175 ,

Thank you for asking your question in our community. I think this is a good question to ask Geotab ACE. It should be able to do this. I would try that put and see if it is able to or not. If not I will look into a better way to figure this out.

Let me know how it goes.

Have a good one!

Hi @****-6175

Yes, it's possible to measure the average speed within a zone in Geotab, but it's not a "direct button" that automatically gives you that value in every case.

Here's how it works:

In Geotab/MyGeotab, Zones are primarily used to detect entries, exits, and events within the area, not to automatically calculate the average speed as a standard metric.

However, you can obtain the average speed within a zone in these ways:

Trip History

You can view the routes that occur within or cross the zone and calculate the average speed of the segment.

Exceptions / Data Feed + Custom Reports

Using GPS data (position + speed) within the zone range, you can:

Filter events within the zone

Calculate average speed (distance/time or average of GPS points)

Add-ons / Advanced Reporting (Go Analytics / BigQuery / API)

If you have access to more advanced tools, you can:

Extract GPS points within the zone

Calculate average speed directly in a custom report

In summary: Yes, it can be measured. It is not an automatic standard "zone" metric. It requires reports, trip analysis, or GPS data.
