MyGeotab - Customized rule

Thanks, I assumed it was an automated system or AI "feature" due to the speed at which it disappeared, but I wasn't 100% sure.

Houdini at work

Eventually, I hope to provide feedback through the normal "feedback" page, but at the moment it is hard to relay detailed or technical information through that form. The plan right now is to post my suggestion in the community section, and then put the link in the feedback form so that they can see more details immediately. I will probably do that in a few days when I have some time to put everything together; I wanted to make sure that this would be a viable workaround before I spent the time + energy creating a mock-up blueprint that aligns with typical industry standards.

GO focus Rules question

hi To customize inspections and add items with checkboxes, you can use Defect Lists in MyGeotab: 1. Go to Maintenance > Asset Inspection. 2. Select Defect Lists and click Add. 3. Define the vehicle parts and specific defects (like load levels). 4. In the Drive app, the driver will be able to select these items during their inspection.

MyGeotab Speed Report

Hi Eishi! Thanks for sharing these details. A question came up for me after the session regarding the scope of the backup power: will it only be used to attempt to send a disconnection message, or will it allow the GO10 to remain active for some time? And if it is the latter, do you have an approximate idea of how long it might last? Thanks again for sharing the updates from the session with us! :)

The status of devices in MyGeotab reports is mainly calculated based on the Last Communication Date. Here are the key details about how it works: • Status calculation: A device shows as "OK" if it has communicated within the last 24 hours. If it hasn't communicated for a full day, the system marks it as disconnected. • Failure codes: There is a specific failure called "Telematics device failure: the telematics device has disconnected," which records the exact timestamp of the disconnection. You can see it under Maintenance > Diagnostics > Failures. • Relation to movement: The device usually communicates when it detects ignition or movement. If the vehicle hasn't moved in over 24 hours and there are no heartbeat events, it will appear as disconnected, even if there is no technical problem. • Visual indicators: In the Watchdog report, devices are highlighted in orange after 3-21 days without connection and in red.

Hey @patrickbarneaux Thank you for asking this question. Glad you came to our community. I would approach this in three parts: Speeding and idling Start with the fleet policy you want to enforce, then use a duration to avoid reacting to very brief events. For example, a speeding rule might require the vehicle to exceed the limit by a defined amount for a minimum number of seconds. Idling can be handled similarly. It can also help to create graduated rules, such as 5, 10, and 20 minutes of idling, but only send notifications for the higher-severity events. The lower-severity rules can remain available for reporting and trend analysis. Harsh braking and acceleration These rules are more dependent on vehicle type, road conditions, and driving context. The older sensor-based rules can produce more false positives, especially when applied to a mixed fleet. Where available, I recommend starting with the newer GPS-based harsh event rules. These use different thresholds based on vehicle class and are designed to reduce noise from events such as road conditions. If you still see unexpected results, review the vehicle classification, GPS data quality, and the surrounding driving context. Camera footage can also be useful when you need to understand why a specific event occurred. Notification strategy It is often better to separate rule detection from notification. First configure the rule and review the resulting events using alerts such as Log only or through reporting. Once you understand the event volume and confirm that the rule is useful, add email, popup, or driver notifications for the events that require action. The Collision Risk reports can also provide useful context by benchmarking driving risk against similar vehicles and operating conditions. This is complementary to exception rules, since it helps identify broader patterns rather than only individual events. The goal is not necessarily to eliminate all exceptions. It is to make sure the exceptions generated are meaningful, aligned with your safety policy, and actionable for the people receiving them. I hope that helps! Eishi FUN

How do you reduce false positives when creating custom rules in MyGeotab?

I took a quick look and I could only find the below engine diagnostics which all appear to indicate when the lights are on, rather than them not working.
Brake warning light (1. On)

Tail lights status (0. Off, 1. On)
