For example, if you allocate 10 of your 100 devices to routing, you are billed for 10 devices and can use routing for those 10 vehicles.📡 The Next-Gen in Asset TrackingQ: How does the high frequency activate when on the movement mode?A: High Frequency Mode/Update (HFU) is initiated after the MyG command is issued upon the next device update. A GO Anywhere Plus (GA+) in Movement: Delayed mode will receive the HFU command at midnight of the day the HFU is activated.A GA+ in Movement: Immediate Mode will receive the HFU command when it detects a valid Trip Start and report every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes.GO Anywhere Next Gen does not have a movement mode—in HFU, it will simply update every 15 minutes (stationary or moving).

There are many reasons why a standardized rule was needed for customers. Please continue to use the legacy rules for specific speeding rules.

My first thought would be to play around with the duration. Since the standard rule is set at 8 hours and is really the only thing that makes sense to change. I am not 100% how this would work but it is worth messing around with. So I looked into it a bit more and it seems like this is a known limitation of the rule. I know there is work being done to see how we can manage this but I didnt not find any exact items I could point to on the roadmap to give you any kind of timeline.

Thank you for asking it in our community. There are a few common reasons why a GO device may fail to read the VIN from a vehicle's computer. I used an AI tool to help compile this answer, so please let me know if anything needs clarification. The GO device reads the VIN by querying the engine ECU over the CAN bus. Whether this succeeds depends on how the vehicle manufacturer implemented that part of the ECU firmware. The most common reasons it fails are: - VIN not programmed in the engine ECU — especially after an ECM replacement, the VIN sometimes needs to be manually re-entered using manufacturer diagnostic software and is often skipped - The ECU returns a manufacturer-internal ID instead of the ISO VIN — some manufacturers store an internal build or calibration number in the VIN register rather than the standard 17-character VIN - ECU security lockout — newer ECU firmware versions on some makes require an authenticated diagnostic session before exposing the VIN. Without it, the ECU ignores the request entirely - CAN bus connection issue — if the device is operating in two-wire mode or is connected to the wrong CAN segment, it has no path to the engine ECU It is also possible a loose installation is causing this issue. its hard to say without looking the specific case but I hope this helps give you some things to look into. If the engine VIN cannot be read automatically, the most reliable workaround is to enter it manually in the device settings in MyGeotab. I owe you a correction on my previous response I pointed you at MediaFile and SolutionId, and that was the wrong direction entirely for the GO Focus Plus. I'm sorry for the confusion. Your observation about api.smarterai.com/v5/events in the network requests was the key signal, and it was completely right. GO Focus Plus video is served by the Geotab Video Platform (GVP), which was previously backed by SmarterAI's own API. It has now been ported to native MyGeotab APIs, accessible at your standard {myg-host}/apiv1 endpoint using the same JSON-RPC pattern and session credentials you already use. MediaFile is not relevant here — ignore my previous guidance on SolutionId. The correct API types are:1. Query video events — CameraEvent{ "method": "Get", "params": {  "typeName": "CameraEvent",  "credentials": { "database": "...", "userName": "...", "sessionId": "..." },  "search": {   "fromDate": "2026-06-01T00:00:00Z",   "toDate": "2026-06-10T00:00:00Z",   "cameraSerialNumbers": ["GEH1F9R79P0Z"]  } }}Each result includes an id (video event ID), exceptionId (direct link to the MyG exception — no timestamp correlation needed), recording timestamps, device/driver IDs, and event type/attributes. 2. There's no direct MP4 download URL exposed. Authentication is standard MyGeotab — create a Service Account, call Authenticate, and use the session ID. No separate SmarterAI credentials are needed. To your specific question: there is no SolutionId involved in any of this. The GVP API is scoped to your database by your MyG credentials — it's not a namespace issue like the MediaFile pattern I incorrectly described. These APIs are currently being merged into the official Geotab SDK documentation — they may not appear on developers.geotab.com yet, but they are production-ready at the apiv1 endpoint. Yes but there is one exception. There is always a automatic ON log that gets created with every drive log once it ends. This creates the ON status until the Off or SB status is manually selected. This could be 1 second or 1 hour. This log can be edited but the status of the log cannot be changed. You could shorten it from 1 hour to 1 minute for example but you cannot change it into a Off log.

So it should become a standard on every database at a certain point to the best of my knowledge. I was not able to confirm if every database has it yet or not my assumption is no. And yes you can just make the request and they should be able to flip the switch for you.

Great question! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. This is almost certainly a database-level service setting rather than anything wrong with your configuration. Although without seeing your database I cannot be 100% confident this is it. It is just what I think makes the most sense. Support would be able to look at your database and the situation a lot better than we can in the community.  Geotab has two background services that handle automatic asset linking:- The legacy AssetPairing service (older, being retired)- The new AssetCoupling service (current, uses the modern AssetLink entity) These two are mutually exclusive and controlled by a feature flag (EnableAssetCouplingGeneric) that has to be enabled per database. Your previous company likely had the new service enabled and that's why auto-linking worked there. Your new company's database may still be on the legacy service or may not have the auto-linking service enabled at all, which would explain why everything needs to be done manually through Drive. First thing to check: Contact your reseller or Geotab support and ask them to confirm whether the asset linking / AssetCoupling service is enabled on your database. That's the most likely fix. Beyond that flag, auto-linking has a few specific requirements that are worth validating:1. Both devices must be moving together — assets that are stationary in a yard will never auto-link regardless of settings. The system needs to see them travelling together to establish the link.2. ~15 minutes of movement data is required — the algorithm needs enough shared GPS fixes to be confident the devices are actually moving together, not just near each other. Short trips may not give it enough time.3. Reporting mode on the Flex Solar units matters a lot — if those units are in a time-based reporting mode (e.g. every 8–24 hours), they won't be generating GPS fixes frequently enough while moving for the algorithm to detect co-movement. If possible, set them to movement-based mode so they report while in motion. Wired/powered units will link much faster than battery-only units since they report as frequently as a GO device.4. Same work group helps but is probably not the root cause here — that was more of a factor in the legacy service. The short version: start with your reseller to check the database service flag. If that's enabled and it's still not working, the Flex Solar reporting mode is the next thing to look at. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or run into any issues getting into contact with support or your reseller.

I wanted to make sure I had a proper answer before following up! After digging into it: the Step object in GetDirections does not include lat/long coordinates, and unfortunately there's no built-in way to get them from that API today. The Step only gives you Instructions (the turn-by-turn text), Distance, Duration, and Sequence — no coordinate field. The one place you do get coordinates is at the Leg level — each Leg has an Origin and Destination Waypoint (with x = longitude, y = latitude), but those are just the waypoints you passed in, not the individual turn locations. The most practical workaround is to call the Google Maps Directions API directly (maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/directions/json) with the same waypoints. GetDirections actually proxies to Google under the hood, but strips the step-level geometry before returning it. Calling Google directly gives you start_location/end_location per step plus an encoded polyline — exactly what you're looking for. You'll need your own Google Maps API key. There's no existing product request to add coordinates to the Step object, so if this is a priority for you it's worth submitting feedback — the underlying data is there, it's just not being surfaced. Hope that helps, and sorry again for the wait!Eishi FUN
