Working in disconnected mode

Does Geotab offer to use it in disconnected mode?

The reason

I am asking is we work in pipeline construction and a lot of times our vehicles

are up in the mountain with zero signal. On one site we have no signal at all

as there is only one cell boost tower, my drivers stand by the tower trying to

log in but to no avail, they cannot stay there all day as they need to work on

the project. If Geotab does offer this then it will allow my drivers to

complete the choose vehicle option, do a DVIR and go about their day, then once

they get back to a normal area and get signal they open the app and everything

they did for the day would upload to the cloud. I currently do this with my

iPad on several apps as a compliance manager while I am up there and then when

I get signal all my work is uploaded to each app and saves it for future

reference.

Hello @KMann-10082 ,

Thank you for asking your question in our community. Our device will record everything that happens while disconnected and once connection is restored it will upload the data. It has a pretty big cache size onboard even if you are out of signal for couple days it should still be able to record everything and send it once the connection is restored.

Let us know if you have any other questions.we are here to help.

Have a great day!

The problem is, my drivers can't even get signal to log into the DriveApp so if they can't log in then how will it store data?

Kind regards

If there is a way for them to login to the vehicle while they do have signal then they can do their inspections when offline but the issue is connecting to the vehicle needs to be done while they have a connection. If they are always in the same vehicle then it may not be so bad to just bring both tablet and vehicle into an area of connection and then assign the vehicle. Then they can just go about their inspections while in offline mode.

Hello Eishi,

Thats the issue we have almost no signal in the area they are working.

We are a company that builds pipelines so a lot of our work is in very remote areas with zero service, we might have limited services in the supervisor trailers but no service in our staging yard where we park all of our equipment, or in the mountains when the drivers are completing thier work. This creates an issues that even if they stepped into the trailer to login, then walked to thier trucks, did the pre-trip and then go about there day, seeing as we have no signal means the trucks can't communicate to down load any data collected through-out the day.

as I said, I use several apps completely offline, I dontr need to login at all, I just open it up and go about my day then when I have signal I hit the sync button and all the data I did for that day will automatically upload to the cloud and then save directly within my report

Thats why I am asking if we can use Geotab completely off line.

So you should be able to use it offline for you purposes and once you get into an area of connection the data is uploaded automaticaly. If you want the Geotab GO device to be able to comunicate with your tablet while in an offline mode you can use this solution as well: Geotab Drive — Offline Mode Setup Guide [PUB]
