Can a driver submit a new asset inspection without resolving defects from a previous inspection on the same vehicle?

The customer is only using the DVIR (they are not HOS). They want the drivers to do an Asset Inspection daily at the beginning of the shift, but if a defect that was previously reported is not repaired by the next day, they have to first list all defects as repaired before they can do a new inspection, which point they enter in those same defects.

Hey, @CarmineTWEX-1098!

I tested this recently and it seemed that marking a defect as Repair not needed for safe operation of the vehicle will keep the defect on the next inspection but allow for another one.

(The idea here is that defects that are reported that do need to be addressed require drivers to move to a different vehicle.)

Hey @CarmineTWEX-1098 ,

Good questions. I had this test this our myself because I was not sure. I found that yes you are able to do the DVIR even if the previous defect has not been resolved. So if you mark a defect for needing new windshield wipers on your DVIR and then go to drive the next day and it still hasn't been fixed your DVIR will will show the red repair option instead of inspect. You will have to press that and then it will ask you if it has been repaired. If you select not repaired it will not let you continue to do the DVIR as it assumes you will not be able to use the vehicle because of the un-repaired issue. To continue with the DVIR you will need to choose the option Repair not necessary for the safe operation of the vehicle and add a remark like windshield wipers still working well enough to drive but need fixed soon. This will let you certify the previous inspection and let you continue and do your DVIR for that day. The defect will still be listed there when you do it and you can add new ones if any new things come up.

Let me know if you have any other questions about this. I am happy to help.

Have a good one!

Hello,

According to me

  1. Drivers perform daily asset inspections.
  2. Report defects immediately.
  3. List unrepaired defects in subsequent inspections.
  4. Prioritize listing unresolved defects before new inspections.
  5. Document all defects, repairs, and actions.
  6. Provide clear instructions and training.
  7. Ensure compliance with regulations

I hope this will help you,

Thank you
