In MyGeotab Is the Audio Feedback for Speeding determined by the engine data, or GPS data?

Customer has a  a vehicle showing speeding 5 mph more in the system than he is actually going. Example - he had his cruise control at 71 and in the system, he was showing 76. They believe that it's his tire size causing this issue. He has bigger tires than normally.

Is the Audio Feedback is from the Engine or the GPS?

@CarmineTWEX-1098 Geotab always prioritises GPS speed, so long as the device has a GPS lock it will always use GPS speed. If the device loses GPS lock then it will fall back to using engine speed (if available) until the devices get GPS lock and then it will switch to using GPS speed.

Hello @CarmineTWEX-1098 ,

Thank you for asking your question in our community. It comes down to how we are getting speed from the vehicle. If we aren't getting it from the engine then we will use GPS to determine how fast they are going. I would maybe take a look at the speed profile to see the changes in speed. Maybe match those ties up with where he was at on the map. I know I have seen cases in the past where the driver sets cruise control and when they go downhill it speed up past the cruise control speed and breaks rules it not supposed to be able to.

Let us know if you haver any other questions. we are happy to help.

Have a great day!

Each of you has given a different answer regarding what Geotab primarily uses to determine speeding to trigger Audio Alerts.

Is there a definitive source at Geotab that can verify which is the primary source (I understand the "secondary" source is defaulted to in the event of issues with the primary source).

Thanks,

Carmine

Thank you for the correction @TonyFC-1053  He is correct we will prioritize GPS based speed over the engine speed. My apologies for communicating differently. I did check this with our internal subject matter experts as well.

Thank you for helping clarify @TonyFC-1053  I appreciate it!!
