We replaced a device in an asset and it does not let me put the new serial # in.

Hello @KLeat-8149 ,

This means that this serial number already exists attached to one of your other vehicles. You can go to the assets search at the top when looking at your assets page and see what vehicle has that serial number. If you dont find it then it is likely in a group that you do not have access to.

from my understanding, the old device was pulled out but it is still reading it (as not communicating) as assigned to the asset. the new device was put in and is reading from the same asset, but it is not assigned to the asset, so it comes up as 'no name'. When I look on the map both devices are pointing to the same asset.

Okay so what it sounds like is the new device was put into the vehicle and then added to MyGeotab as a new vehicle instead of replacing the old one. What you can do is archive the device on the profile for no name and then add it into the profile for the asset where the old device is. To do this you can use the swap feature on the device and setting page of the asset.

Let me know if you are unclear of any steps here and I will give more details
