GO Focus Plus - Physical recording button working inconsistently

Hey Geotabbers!

I've been testing the GO Focus Plus camera over the past few weeks, and I've recently run into a slight issue. The physical button meant for manual recording only seems to work maybe 1 or 2 times per trip and sometimes not at all. Previously, it was working normally without any issues.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? Could this be related to the device's storage/memory or a specific configuration setting?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey @IvanAllegreMM-9898

Thank you for the detailed description the "previously working, now intermittent" pattern is a helpful clue here.

You are not alone this has come up before, and there are a few known reasons the physical recording button on GO Focus Plus can behave inconsistently within a trip:

 1. Camera recording state at the time of the button press

The GO Focus Plus needs to be in an active recording state for a button press to capture footage. If the camera has entered a lower-power or standby state

mid-trip (which can happen depending on the vehicle's ignition signal behaviour), the button press will still be logged in MyGeotab as an event, but  there is no footage to retrieve because the camera was not actively recording at that moment. This is the most common reason for "works at the start of a trip but not later."

 2. SD card / storage health

If the camera's internal storage has encountered errors and remounted in a read-only state, new recordings silently fail everything appears normal from the outside, but video files cannot be written. Symptoms: button press events appear in MyGeotab but no video is produced. This is worth checking, especially if you have seen any camera fault codes (605/606/607/608) on the device.

 3. Firmware version

Firmware v59 included improvements to the video recording pipeline and storage recovery logic that addressed some of these intermittent recording failures. If your unit has not been updated, that would be a good first step.

 Things to try:

 - Check the current firmware version on the device and update to v59 or later if not already done

 - Review whether any camera fault codes have been generated in MyGeotab under the device's engine data

 - Note the exact times the button press did and did not produce a recording this helps support confirm whether the exceptions were logged and whether media requests were queued

If the issue persists after a firmware update, I would recommend raising a support case including the device serial number and a few specific timestamps. There are a couple of configuration items on the backend that can be checked and corrected quickly when support has that detail.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. We are here to help.

 Have a great day!

Hi Eishi,

Thank you so much for the detailed response and the troubleshooting steps!

I think Point 1 could potentially be what is happening here. On the other hand, I am fairly confident we can rule out Point 2, as I have checked the engine data and I haven't encountered any of those camera fault codes (605/606/607/608) on the device. I would like to try your third suggestion first and make sure the firmware is up to date. I checked MyGeotab and saw a version listed as 2025.38.76-release. I also checked with my team, and they mentioned we don't have a way to manually push or force a firmware update to the camera from our end.

Could you give me some pointers on how we can trigger or request this firmware update to get the camera to v59?

Thanks again for your great help!

The only way I know to get the firmware updated is to go through support. They should be able to do it on the backend. I hope that does the trick!
