BAR-CTP overview

MyGeotab supports participation in the California Bureau of Automotive Repair Continuous Testing Program (BAR CTP) using a dedicated feature in your database.

The BAR CTP allows government agencies with e-plates to replace biennial smog checks with continuous, telematics-based monitoring. Geotab serves as an approved telematics provider, automating the transmission of OBD emissions data to the BAR system.

To participate in the program, you must complete a one-time database setup to provide the required information for each vehicle in your fleet. See the BAR CTP database setup help article for more information on the setup process.

The California BAR CTP page helps you track your fleet's compliance with the BAR program. You can use it:

  • Access alerts sent directly from BAR about rejected submissions

  • Highlight vehicles that have not met their 30-day annual submission threshold

  • Show the number of vehicles in your fleet that are not currently reporting to BAR CTP

You can access the California BAR CTP by navigating to Compliance > California BAR CTP in the main menu.

Before you begin using the California BAR CTP, you'll need to set up your database to support it. See the Bar CTP database setup help article to learn more.
