How long is a user locked out of MyGeotab for?

When one of our drivers try to log in too many times it locks them out. I'm aware that we can unlocking them is a easy fix.

My question is if they waiting 5 min or 10 min will it allow them to try again or do you have to wait for an admin person to unlock them?

This process has changed since this question was asked and I wanted to update with the most accurate information.

To enhance security, MyGeotab automatically locks user accounts after a specific number of incorrect login attempts within a defined timeframe.

The default lockout settings are:

  • After five (5) unsuccessful login attempts, the user will be locked out for five (5) minutes.
  • Subsequent failed login attempts will extend the lockout period to ten (10) minutes.

User lockouts can also be triggered by the Idle Session Timeout feature, which automatically logs out inactive users after a set period.

  • Since September 2024, Geotab has implemented a standardized user identification and access system across all its platforms. As a result, the lockout settings are no longer customizable and cannot be disabled, unless your database had custom settings prior to this update.
  • With the updated user identification and access system, it is not possible to determine if a different user is locked out. However, the affected user will see a notification banner when attempting to log in.

With the current settings, If a user fails to login 5 times, they are locked out for 5 minutes, if they failed to login (6th) after these 5 minutes have passed, they need to wait another 10 minutes before trying again (7th attempt). After 15 minutes of their last failed attempt, the failure count resets and they have 5 attempts again to login before being locked out again.

Hey, @AHewa-1804!

This is actually something that is defined within your system. The standard lockout (if nobody has changed it on your end) is set to lock a user out for 30 minutes after 3 failed login attempts within 15 minutes.

You can change that by navigating to Administration > System... > System Settings > User account policy in MyGeotab and adjusting the USER LOCKOUT section to meet whatever your own security standards are.

Hope this helps. :)
