Possible connection points for the three-wire harness

Introduction

This document is a reference guide for the power and ignition location and connection points in all supported refrigerated units (trailers).

If you cannot find a certain unit, or if the connection point location has changed or is not available, please contact the Support team.

The following table outlines the three signals you need to find in order to perform the installation:

Signal

Definition

Constant Power (VCC)

Input voltage (12V) comes from the trailer’s true battery source, which is live at all times.

This connection point is connected to the red wire on the three-wire harness.

Ground (GND)

The reference point directly comes from the power supply (battery) terminal, and the trailer’s chassis.

This connection point is connected to the black wire on the three-wire harness.

Ignition

The ignition sense wire must be connected to a refrigeration unit’s controller ignition source.

  1. The ignition sense wire is live (12V) when the refrigeration unit’s controller ignition is ON.
  2. The ignition sense wire is 0V when the refrigeration unit’s controller ignition is OFF.

This connection point is connected to the yellow wire on the three-wire harness.

! IMPORTANT: All signals to be connected must be measured (voltage for constant power and ignition, and conductivity for the chassis, for example) and validated during the installation prior to the wiring, as they may vary between installations.

Smart Reefer controller boards

✱ NOTE: If you are installing the solution using an IOX-COLD RUGGED, the three-wire connection does not need to be connected to the controller boards as they are already wired in the cold chain harness. For more information, refer to the Thermo King Smart Reefer 2, 3, and 4 Installation Guide.

Smart Reefer 3 controller board (SR-3)

This section outlines the connection point location for all refrigeration units containing a SR-3 controller board.

The SR-3 controller board is inside the unit’s right compartment.

Constant Power (VCC)

You have the following options to connect the VCC:

  1. Best option: FHR86-HC1 wire — Relay block for fuel heater system
  2. Main 80A fuse F5
  3. F5B-HC2C connected wire to SP1-F5A
  4. 15A fuse — SPC1-F6A connected wire to F6B-SP2 wire
  5. Disconnected fuse block — FHR30-F8B wire
  6. AMP1-GCS2 spare wire in bundle of three spare wire connections

Ground (GND)

Chassis ring terminal, located on the upper right part of the controller board:
