Can we see trailer attaching and detaching via engine measurements?

Hey Everybody,

I'm trying to find a way to see whenever a trailer is attached or detached to a tractor via the GO unit. Has anyone ever done this before? I can see some different options for measurements that I would think would work (e.g. Trailer 1 connected, Trailer detachment detected (1 = detected)), but I'm not seeing any data when I run them.

If anyone else has had this issue (wanting to track when a trailer is attached or detached) and found a way to resolve it, I'd definitely be interested to hear about it. I was hoping we could pull this via the engine since the trucks get information on their dashboards when trailers are attached.

Thanks in advance for any info any of you can provide! :)

Best,

Joy B

Hello @JoyB-1408 ,

Thank you for bringing up this question in our community. I looked into this internally to see if vehicles normally report this and it looks like if you would like to get the measurement you could reach out to support and ask them to do a VDR ( Vehicle data request) formerly known as EDR ( Engine data request). They would try to reverse engine the measurement and see if we could decode it. At least this was the case with previous vehicles. It may be easier with certain models to decode and wont need a full reverse engineering but you would need to talk with support about it.

The only other way to track this I can think of is with IOX-AUX . Other than that I am stumped. Maybe @Jsherman-1554 has seen any other creative solutions for this he can share?

Feel free to reach out if you have other questions about this. You know I am happy to help 😀

Have a good one!

Thanks, @EishiFUN! Can you message me their contact info; I don't think I have this team's email address.

You can use the normal support process for this. You will let them know what you are trying to do, they will double check to see if the measurements are there and then escalate to the engineering team. The engineering team will look into this further to see what all we will need to do to get this measurement. Sometimes it is easier than others. There are some cases where we will need to physically visit a vehicle if we do not have access to that vehicle type.

Let me know if you have any other questions about this.

Have a great day!
