Small asset tracking

Small asset tracking uses beacons to allow you to track small, inexpensive, or non-powered equipment.

Bluetooth beacons attached to assets emit secure Bluetooth signals with unique information that are detected by nearby host devices. Location and other data is relayed by the host device to the Geotab cloud, where you can track and manage your assets.

Small asset tracking can be used for a variety of use cases. Using beacons, you can:
  • Track the locations of assets that cannot use traditional GO devices

  • Receive alerts when small assets separate from linked vehicles and equipment

  • Use zones and rules to create alerts when small assets are removed from a particular location

Compatible Bluetooth beacons

Small asset tracking in MyGeotab works with a range of Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) beacons.

These Bluetooth beacons are fully integrated with MyGeotab, giving you a clear view of your tools and equipment.

The following beacons are currently supported on the platform. You can use their Geotab Serial Number (GSN) prefixes to identify them.

  2. Locate your asset using one of the following methods:
    1. Search for the asset by name using the search bar.
    2. Open the Filter to filter the map by group, asset type, or status to see groups of assets.
  3. Click the Locate button in the asset panel to quickly zoom the Map to the asset’s last known location.
The Asset details panel on the Map page, showing the Locate button
If you want to know where the asset has been prior to its last known location, click the Trip button to open the Trips History page.
