Collision risk performance

Understanding your collision risk performance helps you turn daily driving data into coaching opportunities.

Review data and benchmarks to find which drivers and assets need attention and track how they improve over time.

Safety data updates

To provide the most current view of your fleet, safety data update every day at 1:00 a.m. UTC.

If your fleet uses more than one database, your data will still appear in each one. However, MyGeotab only calculates fleet benchmarks for the assets that a specific database owns. To see a fleet benchmark, a database must own at least two assets. This ensures MyGeotab has enough data to create a fair comparison.

Viewing the Collision Risk dashboard

Learn how to view your fleet's average collision risk over time.

Check if your safety programs are working to lower collision risk.

  1. Navigate to Safety > Collision Risk in the main menu.
  2. Click the Assets or Drivers tab.
  3. Choose whether to view data for a group or your entire fleet:
    • To see data for a specific part of your fleet, such as a branch or region, use the Groups filter.
    • To see data for your entire fleet, skip the filter.
  4. Select the date range for your data.

The dashboard graph shows how collision risk changes over the selected time period. The average collision risk shows as a percentage with one of these levels:

The Collision Risk page, showing the Average Collision Risk dashboard.

  • Low: Collision risk is more than 1% below the average for similar fleets.

  • Moderate: Collision risk is within 1% of the average for similar fleets.

  • High: Collision risk is more than 1% above the average for similar fleets.

Viewing collision risk levels for your assets or drivers

Learn how to check collision risk levels for assets or drivers.

Find which assets or drivers may need attention based on their collision risk.

  5. Review the Collision risk column in the table.

The Collision risk column shows a predicted level for each row. Click a level to see more details, such as the collision risk for the next 100,000 km and how it compares to similar assets or drivers.

  • Low: Collision risk is more than 1% below the average for similar fleets.

  • Moderate: Collision risk is within 1% of the average for similar fleets.

  • High: Collision risk is more than 1% above the average for similar fleets.

Viewing collision risk ranks by driving behavior

Learn how to see where your assets or drivers rank for specific driving behaviors.

Find which drivers need coaching based on how they rank for each driving behavior.
  5. Review the driving behavior columns in the table, such as Speeding or Braking.

The rankings show how each asset or driver compares to others in similar fleets.

  • At risk: In the bottom 15% compared to similar fleets. These have the most room to improve.

  • Underperforming: Below average compared to similar fleets. These may need some attention or coaching.

  • Average: In the middle range compared to similar fleets.

  • Great: Above average compared to similar fleets, but not the very top.

  • Best: In the top 15% compared to similar fleets. These are the highest performers.

Why is my collision risk data showing N/A?

Resolve issues where collision risk data shows as N/A due to missing driving history, unsupported hardware, or not enough assets for comparison.

The table shows N/A instead of a level or ranking. This means MyGeotab does not have enough data or the asset is not a match for that specific rank.

The most common reason for N/A is a lack of recent data. MyGeotab needs a set amount of activity to calculate an accurate ranking. If an asset is new or has limited driving history, N/A displays until enough data is collected.

  • Make sure the asset has driven at least 50 km within the last 7 days.
  • Check that the asset is sending valid GPS data.
  • Check that the device has sent data within the last 30 days.

MyGeotab cannot track tailgating for small cars or light-duty vans. Some hardware types also do not support tailgating detection, including OEM, third-party, and FedRAMP devices.

  • Check that the asset is a medium-duty or heavy-duty truck.
  • Make sure you have ADAS hardware or a GO Focus device.
  • Check that the device is a standard Geotab GO unit and is not in Restricted Data Mode.

MyGeotab creates rankings by comparing your assets to others in similar fleets. If your fleet has only one asset, there is not enough data to build a reliable comparison. Also, if drivers are not assigned to assets, MyGeotab cannot assign them a ranking.

  • Make sure the fleet has at least 2 assets for comparison.
  • Assign drivers to their assets in MyGeotab through the Assets page.
