Creating an EV Suitability Assessment

Start a new assessment and pick your country.

Before you begin: Review the requirements and supported countries before you start. Your Data Access property must be set to Everything.

The assessment has four steps: Vehicles to Assess, EV Models, Charging Locations, and Preferences.

  1. Open the EV Suitability Assessment page:
    1. In Classic MyGeotab, navigate to Sustainability > EV Suitability Assessment.
    2. In Next-Generation MyGeotab, open the EV Suitability Assessment app from the main menu or your app library. If you don't see it in your app library, you may need to download it from the Marketplace.
  2. On the Electric Vehicle Suitability Assessment page, click + New assessment.
  3. Select your country from the list.

The assessment opens on the Vehicles to Assess step.

Next, select the vehicles and EVs for your assessment.

Selecting vehicles and EVs for an assessment

Choose the vehicles to assess and the EVs to compare them with.

On the Vehicles to Assess step, all of your vehicles are listed and none are selected. Use the following tools and filters to narrow the list, and then select the vehicles that you want to assess:

  • Filter by group: Refine the vehicle list based on the groups that the vehicles belong to in MyGeotab.
  • Search: Filter the vehicle list by asset name, make and model, or vehicle type. Filtering starts as soon as you type.
  • Make and model: Refine the vehicle list by make and model. You can select multiple values.
  • Vehicle type: Refine the vehicle list by detected vehicle type. You can select multiple values.
  • All filters: Open the All filters panel to filter by vehicle age. The Vehicle age filter selects vehicles that are older than a specific number of years, based on their decoded VINs.

  1. Use the filters to narrow the vehicle list.
  2. Select the vehicles that you want to assess.
    • To select all vehicles on the current page, select the checkbox in the page header.
    • To select individual vehicles, select the checkbox next to each vehicle.
    • To select all filtered vehicles across all pages, click the arrow next to the header checkbox instead of selecting only the current page.

  3. If needed, click Selected vehicles to review the list of selected vehicles.
  4. To exclude a vehicle from the assessment, click the trash icon next to its name.

    The Charging Locations step opens.

Next, select your charging locations.

Selecting charging locations for an assessment

Choose where you plan to install chargers so the EVSA can check charging viability.

On the Charging Locations step, select the locations where you plan to install chargers. The assessment checks whether your fleet vehicles stop long enough in the selected locations to meet their charging needs.

  1. Under Charging Locations, select the option that matches your planned deployment.
    • Workplace Locations: The charging viability analysis considers charging opportunities at workplace locations only. You select the zones that define your workplace locations in the next steps.
    • Workplace Locations & Drivers' Homes: The charging viability analysis considers charging opportunities at workplace locations and at drivers' homes. You select the zones that define your workplace locations in the next steps. You don't need to create or select zones for drivers' homes, because these locations are detected automatically. The EVSA assumes that a driver's home is the location where a vehicle stops for the longest time outside any selected workplace zone.
    • Skip Charging Viability Analysis: Select this option if you don't want to select zones or run the charging viability analysis. The analysis assumes that each EV starts every day with a fully charged battery.
  2. If you selected a workplace option, select the zones that outline the workplace locations where you plan to install charging infrastructure.
    Note:

If you don't have zones for the locations that you want, create them on the Zones page before you continue. For more information, see Zones.

  3. If needed, search for a zone by name, or use the zone type filter to narrow the list.
  4. Select the checkbox next to each zone that you want to include.

  5. Click Continue.

    The Preferences step opens.

Next, set your costs and analysis period.

Setting procurement options, costs, and analysis period preferences

Set how you buy vehicles, what they cost, and how much data to use.

On the Preferences step, change the procurement model, default costs, and analysis period for your assessment.

  1. Under Procurement, select whether you intend to purchase or lease the EVs.

Procurement settings with Purchase and Lease options and a vehicle retention period.
  2. From the dropdown menu, select the expected vehicle retention period.
  3. Under Non-EV Costs, review the Average fuel price and update it if necessary.

  4. To review and change the estimated costs for non-electric vehicles, click Non-EV Cost Estimates.

On this page, you can change cost and fuel economy values for the generic internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles that the assessment compares with electric vehicles.

  5. To change values for several vehicles at once, select the vehicles in the list, select the Actions menu (⋮), and then select Bulk edit.

Non-EV Cost Estimates table with the Bulk edit option open.
  6. Under EV Costs, review the Average electricity price and update it if necessary.

EV Costs settings with the average electricity price and an EV Models Cost Estimates link.
  7. To review and change the estimated costs for EV models, click EV Models Cost Estimates.

To narrow the list before you change values, filter by EV make or model, vehicle type, powertrain, or vehicle size. To change values for several EV models at once, select them and use Bulk edit as described for non-EV costs.

  8. Under Analysis Period, select the number of months of telematics data to use for the assessment.

The assessment needs telematics data from your existing fleet vehicles to evaluate duty cycle and usage patterns accurately. For data guidelines, see Requirements and supported countries.

Analysis Period setting with the vehicle telematics data period dropdown menu.
  9. Click Finish to submit the assessment for evaluation.

When the evaluation is complete, open the assessment to review the results.
