Viewing and applying exemptions

How to view available exemptions and apply them in Geotab Drive.

For a full list of supported exemptions, see HOS supported exemptions. However, note that your admin controls which exemptions are available to you.
  1. Tap HOS on the main dashboard and then choose the Status tab near the top of the HOS page.
  2. Tap View exemptions.
  3. On the Exemptions screen, tap Apply or Start next to an exemption to enable it, or tap Remove or Stop to end a currently active exemption. Generally, only one exemption can be active at a time.

More information about the Yard Move, Personal Conveyance, and Exempt HOS exemptions in Geotab Drive.

If enabled by your admin in the app, you can enable the Yard Move (YM), Personal Conveyance (PC), and Exempt HOS exemptions as described in Viewing and applying exemptions.

This article provides some details about these exemptions:

  • YM and PC are not available if the telematics device cannot communicate with the vehicle (see Connection status).

  • YM and PC logs cannot be edited.

  • All manual duty status changes are disabled (greyed out) while YM or PC are active.

  • End a YM event by tapping End on the Exemptions screen, or by turning the vehicle ignition off and back on.

    • In Canada, YM is automatically disabled if the vehicle moves faster than 32 kph.

  • End a PC event by tapping End on the Exemptions screen, or by confirming the event ended in the prompt that appears after the vehicle is turned off and back on.

    • In Canada, PC is automatically disabled if you drive more than the daily PC distance limit, shown in the app. In the USA, PC is not automatically disabled but you will be shown a notification.

  • You can apply Exempt HOS if you are operating in any HOS-exempt capacity as defined by North American regulations.
