How to perform an asset inspection in Geotab Drive.
If the vehicle has a defect identified in a previous inspection and the problem hasn't been fixed yet, you must review the previous inspection so you know about the vehicle’s defects and certify that the vehicle is safe to drive. For more information, see Certifying a previous inspection.- Navigate to the Asset Inspection screen. The screen appears when logging in, and can be accessed at any time from the main dashboard by tapping Asset Inspection.
- Choose the type of inspection:
Pre-trip to certify there are no defects at the beginning of a trip, or that existing defects have been repaired or acknowledged, and the vehicle is safe to operate.
In-trip to record defects found while the trip is in progress.
Post-trip to certify there are no defects at the end of the trip, or that any defects are recorded and scheduled for repair before the next trip.

- Choose the Checklist type from the dropdown. There is a default checklist of items to inspect, but your admin can create custom checklists for your fleet as needed.
Note: Your admin can make defect sections required or optional. For required sections, you must explicitly confirm that no defects were found. For optional sections, you only need to specify if a problem is found.
- Walk around the vehicle and record any defects you find. Add remarks to each defect if needed. You can tap the camera icon to take a picture of an identified defect.
- If no defects are found, tap No Major or Minor defects found. If defects were found, tap Done.
- When prompted, tap Yes to certify the vehicle was inspected in compliance with regional and/or federal regulations.
Note for drivers that record HOS - if you are performing a pre-trip inspection after logging in and have not manually set a duty status, your duty status will automatically switch to On Duty and a log will be created. The new On Duty log is annotated to show that a pre-trip inspection was performed.
