Hey- thanks for the webinar today on MCP. It looks like a great tool. Just curious why some of the endpoints are blocked in the listed limitations. Is that temporary or a design choice?

Some initial playing around produced good results - although i was surprised that some simple questions like how many drivers are going to run out of cycle hours produced 18 API calls - I'm just worried about hitting API rate limits quite quickly. Any tips?

Hey Mike,

Some of the operations are blocked until we have thoroughly tested them to ensure the AI can handle them appropriately.

In terms of the API calls we are in the midst of producing purpose built Skills that will provide better guidance to the AI on how to most efficiently utilize the endpoints. The limits have more headroom that you'd expect. Rate limits apply per method + entity + username + database combination, not as one global bucket. The relevant entities for your question are generous at base tier: Get DutyStatusAvailability allows 2,500/min, DriverRegulation 500/min, Device 650/min. Fleets over 1,000 tracked assets get a tier multiplier (5x to 25x). An 18-call question consumes under 1% of one minute's budget for one entity. Most limits are also still in observe-only mode (headers set, not enforced yet). Reference: developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/guides/rateLimits

Hi Mike, I am a developer exploring the MCP, new to GeoTab. Not related to your question, but did you sign up on the https://my.geotab.com/registration.html and created a demo data base? I followed the process but after trying with two different new accounts, I am not able to authenticate. I get the "Wrong email or password" message. I missed the webinar today, wondering if you had this issue as well. Thanks

Hi- no, I just used our production database for initial exploration. I wonder if they've limited API/MCP access for demo accounts or something like that.

Hey @mike23421, I wouldn't be too concerned with the API rate limits, they're pretty generous and you would probably need to do something crazy to be able to hit those limits, and I would hope the mcp would be built in a way to use best practices and not hit rate limits with normal use.
