When a Device in suspend mode - can you tell if it's been activated?

Reseller has many go devices currently not in use (unplugged). Rather than cancel them, we thought to put them in suspend mode until needed. BUT....Can we tell when a device is activated again once in suspend mode? Could a reseller build an api around that which would detect the change in status and move the device into a billable plan?

Great questions, Commenting to follow..

It appears we do send data but it is heartbeat only. So I am not sure what you could do to auto activate it at that point without requesting the device plan to change to anything other than suspended or terminated of course. .

Since it is still sending the same whether it is in full use or just sending the heartbeat to stay alive, I am not so sure it would be possible but would like to know myself as well.

Thanks

Hey, @lauriesehl-1733!

I don't believe that Suspended units send any data at all (even heartbeat--at least not from the UI side in MyGeotab--at least not that I have personally seen--might be worth verifying with some tests for 100% accuracy on that). Also, I don't remember if it is Terminated units that are re-SIM'd or Suspended units that are reactivated (or both), but one of those sometimes requires a hard reset to start getting data at all, so this could be tricky if the real-world application were in vehicles where the GO units remained in the vehicles while suspended (e.g. landscaping company trucks that aren't used in the winter).

I would be interested to know if this is possible, so commenting to follow.

thanks Joy - these are devices that are unplugged and sitting in a drawer so I'm encouraged by your comment above. If they plug it in, then maybe there's data that comes through the audit trail in Myadmin we could capture.

Cool! Would love to know what you guys turn up through testing, etc. 🤓
