Telematics device codes in Geotab report - Low priority warning light on & General vehicle light is on

We have a customer that pulled an engine fault report that shows vehicles that have a warning light on but they do not. The codes that are for Low priority warning light on, 175 and General vehicle warning light is on, 168. They are recent so not just cleared and still showing on the report previously. Since these aren't P codes and coming from the device, how are they generated/populated? Is there a document that references any additional info? Is there anything besides The Advanced Diagnostic List? Thanks!

Hello @MattWEX-1135,

I've researched the "Low priority warning light on" and "General vehicle warning light is on" faults that you're referring to, and discovered some useful information via our Community website (https://community.geotab.com/s/)

Low priority warning light on: This fault indicates that the GO device is reading an pending fault code from the ECU of a vehicle. The pending fault code being read by the GO device is low priority and not critical or high priority. These types of faults can occur even when the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) of a vehicle is off, and are reported once per trip, if a pending fault code is detected

  • There are no public documents that discuss the origin of these fault, but we can work with you / our Customers to diagnose the with the instances on a case-by-case basis (would need to create a ticket with Support)

General Vehicle Warning Light Is on: The general vehicle warning light indicates a fault reported by the vehicle ECM. A mechanic can inspect the vehicle to know further details about the warning, such as the code assigned by the manufacturer.

Have they checked to make sure that the engine light isn't burnt out? I know that would be a super-rare thing, but could be the issue... 🤔

Thanks, that is a good thought, but it's on newer vehicles so I am thinking that probably isn't it.

Thank you @Marco-1070 I appreciate you researching and providing the above information. We will enter a support ticket if further diagnosis is needed.

We are having the same issue with a 2008 Ford F550 and a 2013 Ford F250. Is it possible this is an error with the Geotab device? Both are GO9 devices.

Sorry on further research. It turns out that the ABS warning light may be the culprit

Anyone get any resolution to this; i followed the Collision Log process and it still only says. "low priorty light" Nothing directing to what the low priority is.

Hey, @DGAYSurvivalFlight-1270!

You may be able to find this by going to Engine and Maintenance > Engine & Device... > Faults and running for the same time frame (or around the same time frame) as the low-priority light. That may give you more indication of what's going on.

Hope this helps! :)

Hi @DGAYSurvivalFlight-1270

Unfortunately not. My understanding is that is can mean a number of different things depending on the vehicle and manufacturer. In some cases it will still throw this code even if a dash light or MIL isn't on.

Still have questions?
