The MyGeotab Rules Engine is one of our most powerful features, offering the flexibility to create custom notifications tailored to your fleet. To ensure this tool remains both powerful and reliable, we are introducing a new Rule Limits system. This update is designed to prevent complex rule combinations from unintentionally slowing down the platform, ensuring a fast and responsive experience for all users.

What's new?

In the past, highly complex rules could occasionally cause system-wide performance degradation. To protect the platform, we’re introducing a Rules Watchdog feature.. This service monitors rule execution and proactively identifies rules that exceed performance thresholds, such as those which generate excessive exception events.

Transparent rule management If a rule is identified as "at-risk" or causes a severe performance issue, MyGeotab will now provide clear, visual feedback. At-risk rules will be marked with indicators on the Rules page. If a rule is causing significant strain, the system will temporarily archive (pause) it to protect platform stability. You’ll be notified immediately with a direct link to the problematic rule so you can take the appropriate steps to modify it.

User-led remediation When a rule is archived by the system, you can review the specific feedback provided - such as generating an excessive number of exceptions - and make the necessary adjustments to the rule's conditions. Once edited and optimized, you can unarchive the rule to resume collecting the exception data you need.

Manual archiving for better organization Beyond system-driven changes, you now have the ability to manually archive both stock and custom rules that you aren't currently using. This helps declutter your Rules page without permanently deleting your configurations. Unlike system-archived rules, manually archived rules can be restored at any time without requiring edits to the rule conditions.

Availability

This update will roll out gradually over a four-week period starting April 29, 2024. Archiving a rule only stops the generation of new exceptions; all previously generated data and exception history remain fully available for your reports.
