Managing your fleet's safety and compliance often requires updating or deleting outdated rules. Previously, deleting a rule with a massive amount of associated exception data could cause the platform to slow down as it attempted to process the removal all at once. To ensure a smooth and reliable experience, we have upgraded how MyGeotab handles rule deletions.

What's new
  • Instant visibility updates: When you delete a custom rule, it immediately disappears from your user interface, reports, and API responses, even while the data is being cleaned up.
  • Safe background processing: The platform now removes the underlying exception events in controlled batches in the background, eliminating platform lag.
  • Audit logging: An audit entry is automatically generated when you initiate a rule deletion, providing a clear record of the background activity.
  • Default rule support: Turning a default stock rule "Off" triggers this same safe background workflow to clear out its historical exception data without deleting the rule itself.
Why it matters

This backend enhancement allows you to manage and clean up your rule configurations confidently. By eliminating the risk of performance degradation, you can maintain better database hygiene without hesitating to remove unused rules or worrying about system slowdowns. Ultimately, this keeps your system organized and ensures your fleet reporting remains fast, accurate, and free of unnecessary clutter.

Availability

This backend improvement will begin a gradual rollout starting the last week of May 2026. Because this is an infrastructure update, there are no new steps to learn, and the performance benefits will apply automatically to your database.
