The Legacy Possible Collision rule is deprecated. Major and Minor Collision rules have been auto-enabled since 2024, but many fleets still run the Legacy rule alongside them, which can produce duplicate alerts for the same collision.

Why the Legacy rule can be turned off

Some fleets kept the Legacy rule enabled because the Collision Reconstruction Add-In previously supported only Legacy events. Since September 1, 2026, Collision Reconstruction has also supported Major and Minor Collision events. Those rules are auto-enabled in about 99% of databases; confirm they’re enabled under Groups & Rules > Rules.

What you need to do

Before turning off the Legacy rule, confirm Major and Minor Collision rules are enabled and move any notifications, reports, or integrations that use Legacy events to Major or Minor. Otherwise, those workflows will stop receiving collision events. Historical Legacy events remain accessible after the rule is turned off. Keep the Legacy rule enabled if your policy does not allow Major and Minor rules, such as Restricted Data Mode, or if you use older GO7 or GO8 devices. Major and Minor rules can still work in these situations, but with lower-resolution data.

Availability

The Legacy rule remains available for now, but Geotab no longer updates it. A firm removal date will be announced with advance notice. This is a deprecation notice, not a removal notice.
