We're introducing Grant Control, a new option in Device Data Sharing that lets you hand off control of a device to a target database without transferring ownership. Image showing new Grand Control option on Share Data page.

What's new?

When you initiate a new device share, you can now turn on the Grant Control toggle to let the receiving database manage the device directly:

  • Delegate configuration: Let the receiving database adjust device settings, IOX peripherals, tachograph options, and starter inhibit controls from their own database.
  • Streamline managed services: Resellers and service providers can manage customer hardware from their own database without relying on the device owner to make changes.
  • Preserve ownership: The source database maintains ultimate ownership and can take back control at any time by ending the share.
  • One controller at a time: Each device supports only one active share through Grant Control, so there's always a clear, single point of management.

NOTE: Grant Control can only be set at share creation and cannot be added to existing shares.

Why it matters

If you share devices across databases, you no longer have to choose between keeping ownership and letting someone else manage the device. Resellers can configure devices on behalf of their customers, and rental or leasing companies can let customers manage devices during a lease without giving up ownership of the asset.

Availability

Grant Control will begin rolling out in March, 2026. To use it, select the Grant Control toggle when creating a new device share in MyGeotab. This option can only be set when the share is created and can't be added to an existing share.

Grant Control will also be available through the standard MYG DeviceShare API end point after April 6, 2026.
