Hey Everybody, I have a customer that is doing some test log transfers, but has gotten the following errors: Missing Output File Comment.  Drivers may be cited for a violation if a file is submitted without the requested ELD Output File comment provided by a safety official. [Information]Missing Required Field.  The field CMV VIN is required for File Header Segment, Power Unit Line file lines if the event was generated when the CMV was powered on and the connection to the ECM is not experiencing a malfunction.  If the CMV was in a powered on state and the connection to the ECM is not experiencing a malfunction when this event was created this would indicate the ELD is not in compliance with the ELD Rule. [Information]File Received.  File Received [Information]Missing Required Field. [Information] So, points 2 and 4 are identical, which makes me wonder if they are referring to two separate vehicles that this driver was using.  (If so, they aren't particularly useful notes without a lot of digging if they don't actually identify the vehicle in question.) I'm trying to figure out why point 3 is there, if that means everything is all good. And point 1 is a bit confusing as well with no actual context about to what it is referring. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide on this for me!  :) Best,Joy B

Looking for Info on Log Transfer Notes/Explanations

Hey Everybody, I'm trying to find a way to see whenever a trailer is attached or detached to a tractor via the GO unit.  Has anyone ever done this before?  I can see some different options for measurements that I would think would work (e.g. Trailer 1 connected, Trailer detachment detected (1 = detected)), but I'm not seeing any data when I run them. If anyone else has had this issue (wanting to track when a trailer is attached or detached) and found a way to resolve it, I'd definitely be interested to hear about it.  I was hoping we could pull this via the engine since the trucks get information on their dashboards when trailers are attached. Thanks in advance for any info any of you can provide!  :) Best,Joy B

I believe that this still requires a pre-trip if drivers are slip-seating one right after the other. What I'm wondering about is if the same driver does a pre-trip, parks for 12 hours in a workday, drives back and lets the vehicle sit for 10 hours overnight, and then logs in again (or doesn't log out since he's the only one driving) the next morning when there hasn't been a 12-hour gap. Does that make more sense? Hey, <a href="/user/bryan-kondub-1329" data-id="1329" data-value="bbnk-1329" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@bbnk-1329</a>​! The optimal setup is very much customer-dependent. What you want to get for the Previous Trip Time Greater Than section is a time that is longer than the shortest time that the customer's vehicles will be parked overnight but longer than the longest time that the vehicles will be parked during the day. For example, let's say that a construction company has drivers that work shifts that run from 8 AM - 6 PM and can be parked at most for 8 hours in a day with travel time factored in. The vehicles will always be parked from 8 PM - 8 AM. So, this customer would need a time longer than 8 hours and shorter than 12 hours. 9 or 10 hours would probably be a good value for this customer. The problem arises when a customer has vehicles that can be parked during the day as long as they are parked at night. Hey, <a href="/user/sumit-nayak-1704" data-id="1704" data-value="SNayak-1704" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@SNayak-1704</a>​! I don't think that the OEM devices have nearly as robust of a dataset as the Geotab GO devices at this time. While I believe that they will improve over time, they seem to have a long way to go before they send as much data as accurately as Geotab devices. (Some of this is likely due to the fact that the OEMs are jumping on the bandwagon now, but Geotab has been in the space for 23 years.) One of the main deficiencies in the OEM devices as they are today is that they do not use the same curve-logging algorithm that Geotab devices use, and instead collect data at a specified ping rate (e.g. once every 30 seconds). This can miss crucial information, such as collision data, which could need to be collected with a lot of data in the middle of a 30-second ping rate. Another item that some of these trackers may not be as suitable for is HOS. From what I understand, some of the solutions are good and HOS-compliant, and some of them are not yet quite up to the FMCSA's specs. There are two main upsides of OEM devices are that they:<ul><li>Come built in and require no up-front hardware or installation costs</li><li>May be able to detect/decode more OEM-specific engine diagnostics/codes than GO devices</li></ul> The benefits of the GO units are largely that they:<ul><li>Collect more-robust data for HOS and collision reconstruction</li><li>Are overall more reliable from what I've seen of the two compared*</li></ul> *OEM devices seem to have a higher failure rate, and also seem to stop communicating data sometimes. I hope this helps you with your assessment. Best,Joy B

Projected end time of daily rest and cycle reset MyGeotab API

Hey, <a href="/user/sudiptakumar-paul-1746" data-id="1746" data-value="SPaul-1746" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@SPaul-1746</a>​! If you're wanting to identify all vehicles in groups that a user has access to, I think you'd need to identify the group the user is in (this is the companyGroups array under the User object) and then find devices with that same group (the groups array under the Device object). The other thing you'll likely have to take into account is if there are vehicles in subgroups of the one that the User is in. For example, if the user is in the Midwest group with Ohio and Indiana as subgroups, you'll need to identify all vehicles in Midwest, Ohio, and Indiana. In that case, you may need to build an array or other data structure to store what the group hierarchy is, working your way down the subgroups for cases like the one described above. Of course, Tucker may be able to correct anything I've said here that's not quite right. I am familiar with the SDK runner objects and general API structures, but I am not a developer like he is. Hope this at least helps get you pointed in the right direction. :) Best,Joy B

If it works like the rest of MyGeotab, I would expect the availability to be reset right on the time that their OFF-duty time switches to 10:00:00. Choose the Date Period you'd like to view unassigned logs for and then select Unidentified driver under the Drivers section.
