MyGeotab Rule notifications/Asset allocations

Hey there,
We have multiple locations across the country and would want the branches to have visibility of the whole fleet due to many interbranch collaborations (that's the easy part). But would like each branch to receive alerts for their vehicles allocated to their particular branch. Im created different groups and noted the groups on my teams profiles but cant seem to get this working how we would like. Ive checked the community, watched many videos online with no luck. Any suggestions?

Hi
Did you also redirect the rules to the corresponding groups?

@Cristian.hdz.Prime24 Yup I sure did, the team members I added to receive the notification then started getting notifications for all vehicles not just those assets assigned to their group.

@davemurray Hey do the team members by chance also have a higher Group clearance in the profiles? If not, do they see all vehicles currently on the Live Map?

@msmith-8610 Yeah they do see all the assets on the live map (i want to keep that but only want them to receive notifications for their group).

Hi Dave, apologies that your question did not receive a complete answer. I just came across this thread and I think I have some information that may help.

You can give users visibility of the entire fleet while limiting their rule notifications by branch. These are controlled separately.

I recommend creating a separate version of the rule for each branch:

1. Under Publish to groups, select only that branch's asset group.
2. Add only that branch's recipients under the Notifications tab.
3. Repeat this for each branch.

Avoid publishing the rule to Company Group, since that applies the rule to the entire fleet. Also check whether the users are still listed as recipients on a built-in or company-wide version of the rule, or through a distribution list.

Their user data access can still be set to the full fleet so they can see all vehicles on the Live Map. The user's data access controls what they can view, while Publish to groups controls which assets the rule evaluates.

Also check the group hierarchy. A rule published to a parent group applies to that group and its subgroups, so each branch rule should be published at the appropriate branch level.

I hope this helps clarify the setup, and apologies again for the delayed response.

@EishiFUN Thanks for following up on this one. I did end up working it out myself eventually with a lot of trial and error (worked it out about a week ago), but funnily enough ended up doing exactly what you have suggested.
I can confirm this method works a treat!
Thanks again
