Driver Safety Scorecard

The Driver Safety Scorecard is a customizable report available on the Marketplace that helps you monitor and improve driver safety across your fleet.

The Driver Safety Scorecard report scores drivers on a scale of 0 to 100 based on exception rule violations. You can customize rule weights and risk classifications to match your fleet's safety priorities.

How it works

The scorecard evaluates driver behavior using six exception rules:

  • Hard Acceleration

  • Harsh Braking

  • Harsh Cornering

  • Seatbelt

  • Speeding

  • Excessive Speeding

Each rule is assigned a percentage weight, and the total of all weights must equal 100%. The scorecard calculates a score for each driver based on how frequently they trigger these exceptions.

Risk classifications

Driver scores are grouped into risk classifications that help you quickly identify drivers who need attention:

  • Low Risk — Score of 90 to 100

  • Mild Risk — Score of 75 to 90

  • Medium Risk — Score of 60 to 75

  • High Risk — Score of 0 to 60

You can adjust both the rule weights and risk classification thresholds to match your organization's safety standards.

Customizing rule weights and risk classifications

Learn how to customize the rule weights and risk classification thresholds in the Driver Safety Scorecard report.

Before you get started, download the Driver Safety Scorecard report from the Marketplace.

You can adjust the percentage weight assigned to each exception rule and modify the score thresholds for each risk classification. Any weight can be applied to any rule, as long as the total equals 100%.

  1. Navigate to Reports > All Available Reports in the main menu.
  2. Locate the Driver Safety Scorecard report under Safety and export it.
  3. Open the exported file in a spreadsheet application and modify the percentage weights in the Rules Weight table.

The Average Fleet Score, Total Scores, and Scoring Classifications update automatically based on your new assignments. Driver scores range from 0 to 100.

  4. Optional: Modify the lowest score for each risk classification category to adjust the thresholds.

The Average Fleet Score and Scoring Classifications recalculate automatically. Total Score values remain unchanged but reclassify based on the adjusted thresholds.

  5. Navigate to the Risk Breakdown tab in the file before saving.
Important: You must open the Risk Breakdown tab before saving. This ensures the correct graph displays on the dashboard.
  6. Save the customized Driver Safety Scorecard file to an accessible location.

Your customized Driver Safety Scorecard is now ready to import into MyGeotab.
