Assets

In MyGeotab, assets are the key to running your fleet well. They allow you to keep a close eye on each of your vehicle's data, life cycle, and costs.

The assets you see in MyGeotab represent the real-life vehicles in your fleet. Adding them to your database is the first step to gathering your fleet's data. By making the best use of your assets, you can keep costs down, raise efficiency, and make sure your fleet operates without problems.

The Assets page

The Assets page displays a list of key data for all assets in your database.

Use the Assets page to monitor the assets in your fleet. You can also use it to adjust settings for single assets or groups of assets. The page display each asset in your fleet in a table with customizable columns.

You can do the following on the Assets page:

  • Manage your assets. This includes adding, editing, and removing assets.

  • Access the Installation History and Installation Pending Changes pages.

  • Access the Device Online and Offline report and the Watchdog report.

  • Manage your cameras.

Asset summary cards

Asset summary cards show you which assets in your fleet need attention.

Asset summary cards display at the top of the Assets page. You can use them to quickly view which assets in your fleet may need attention. Selecting a card filters the table.

The following statuses are shown in the summary cards:
  • Offline: This asset is not communicating.

  • Terminated: This device’s Rate Plan has been terminated and its SIM card is deactivated.

  • Suspended: This device’s Rate Plan has been suspended and the device will not report data until suspend mode is deactivated.

  • Low Asset Battery: This asset's battery is low, and the device may not be receiving enough power.

  • Loose Installation: This device’s installation may not be properly secured.

  • Liquid Intrusion: The device has detected liquid inside the device’s enclosure which may cause electrical interference or capacitor overloads.

  • Activation Issue: The device has detected a fault that appears to stem from an activation issue.

  • OEM-related device status: This OEM device has encountered a device-specific issue. Examples include activation and connectivity issues.

  • Replace Device: This device is eligible for replacement.

MyGeotab only shows asset summary cards for issues that are currently detected in your fleet. You can click the Information icon in each card to learn more about the issue and view potential troubleshooting steps.

Icons that correspond to the icon on the asset summary card are displayed in your list of assets beside the name of assets that are experiencing that issue. Click the icon to learn more about the particular issue detected in the asset.

The Asset Details page

The Asset Details page displays information about a single asset. It's where you can edit the asset's settings.

To open the details page, select the desired asset from the table on the Assets page. The page is divided into three tabs for ease of reference: Asset, Maintenance, and Devices & Settings.

Asset tab

Use the Asset tab to view and edit basic information about the asset, such as usage, operations, location, fuel levels, and events.

The Asset tab is broken down into simple sections to make it easier to find what you're looking for:

  • Asset Information: Basic details about your asset. You'll find its name, ID, make, and model here.

  • Operations: Information about the operation of your asset. This includes drivers, work hours, and status groups.

  • Usage: Data on your asset's usage. This includes odometer and engine hours. Here, you can click View trips to open the Trips History page.

  • Location: GPS-based information about your asset. Here, you can enable Restricted Data Mode. You can also click View Map to view your asset in the full Map feature.

  • Events: Any events associated with the asset. Click View all to view your asset on the Exceptions page.

Maintenance tab

You can see information about the asset's health on the Maintenance tab. This includes maintenance alerts for upcoming or past-due work. You'll also find the asset's maintenance history for the last 30 days, its last inspection, and any faults logged in the past week.

To get more details, click View all on any of the cards in the Maintenance tab. This will take you to the relevant maintenance page.

Devices & Settings tab

The Devices & Settings tab shows you details about the devices connected to the asset. This includes the primary device as well as any secondary or IOX devices. tab to view information about the devices associated with the asset, including the primary devices and any secondary or IOX devices.

Viewing assets on the Assets page

Viewing assets on the Assets page gives you a quick snapshot of key information about your asset.

  1. Navigate to Assets in the main navigation.
  2. Find your asset using one of the following methods:
    1. Search for an asset by name using the search bar.
      Note: The list automatically filters as you type to display your results.
    2. Open the Filter to filter the page by group, asset type, or status to see groups of assets.
Tip: You can configure the information shown in the assets table by selecting the Gear icon at the top of the table and toggling table columns on and off. Click and drag columns to reorder them to show the most important information first.
