Smart speeding
Smart speeding automatically connects speeding events with a visual record of the nearest speed limit sign.
Smart speeding assists speed event review by directly adding visual proof of speed limit signs to speeding events.
As the vehicle drives, the dashcam continuously watches for roadside speed limit signs. When it sees one, it takes a snapshot and tags it with the vehicle's location at that moment. If a speeding event is triggered later, the system finds the most recent sign it detected. It attaches that snapshot and its map location directly to the event record.
When an administrator looks at the event, they see two images side by side: the speeding footage and the speed sign photo with its map location. This makes it clear what the posted limit was at the time, without having to look anything up.
Smart tailgating
Smart tailgating enhances the existing tailgating rule MyGeotab by filtering out events where risk is already being mitigated.
The smart tailgating feature is a video-powered enhancement for the existing tailgating rule in MyGeotab. It addresses a common problem: creating tailgating events when drivers are already self-correcting.
Tailgating detection focuses on the gap between vehicles. Using the existing rule, the system creates an event if the gap is within a certain threshold, even when the driver is slowing down. Smart tailgating filters out events where the risk is already being mitigated, allowing you to focus on coaching events with real risk.
The feature works by watching how quickly the gap between vehicles changes. If the gap is growing at a certain rate, the system determines the driver is self-correcting and no event is generated. If the gap stays the same, gets smaller, or does not grow fast enough, the system creates an event.
Turn violations
Turn violation is a smart detection feature available in MyGeotab that alerts you when drivers make illegal turns.
The turn violations feature uses the road-facing camera and vehicle movement to create events when drivers make illegal turns. It can monitor for illegal left and right turns, as well as for illegal U-turns.
The direction of the turn
Whether the motion matches a right turn, a left turn, or a U-turn
Where signs or lane markings at that location show the turn isn't allowed
If the turn matches the criteria for a turn that is not allowed at that location, the system logs the event with a video recording.
Fleet managers can use turn violations to spot drivers who are more likely to get citations or be involved in a collision.
