Video management

MyGeotab lets you customize access to video features based on user roles.

You can control who accesses video features in MyGeotab using user roles. Applying specific security clearances to each role will ensure that only the users who need to access videos can see them.

You can also configure settings in MyGeotab to manage your data usage. This is important for third-party cameras that may have stringent data usage restrictions.

Data usage management

Paying close attention to your data usage can help avoid costly usage overages.

Important: The content in this section is intended for Surfsight camera users.

Most data overages occur when rules are configured to automatically request video uploads each time they are triggered. In many cases, data overages result from highly sensitive rules, such as speeding or seatbelt rules, that trigger frequently and initiate repeated video uploads.

We recommend the following best practices to manage your data usage:

Reviewing your automatic uploads can help provide visibility into what is generating increased data usage. Automatic video upload should be enabled only when necessary, and only for rules that are regularly reviewed or used for coaching and driver development.

Video security clearances

Users must have the appropriate security clearances enabled to use video features in MyGeotab. These clearances are enabled by default for certain roles, but must be manually enabled for users outside these roles.
