Camera management

Use the Cameras tab of the Assets page to monitor fleet cameras, adjust individual device settings, access video recordings, and manage camera hardware.

Use the Cameras tab of the Assets page to monitor all the cameras in your fleet, and adjust settings for individual devices.

The Cameras tab allows you to:
  • Add new cameras to your database

  • Edit your existing cameras

  • View video recordings

  • Download reports about your devices

  • Manage video upload for rules

Note: Some features, such as the View on map, and Edit buttons, only display when you select one or more assets from the table, or click Select all or Select current page.
By default, the Cameras table displays:
  • Camera: The name of the camera, its device type, and the device status. Click the Map icon beside the camera name to view the associated asset on the Map.

  • Asset: The name of the asset where the device is installed.

  • Camera status: The functional status of the camera, such as communicating or on standby. Any known issues with the camera are indicated in this column.

  • Recordings: A clickable link to view that device's recordings on the Video Recordings page.

  • Actions: The triple dot button icon at the far right of the page, which allows you to:

    • Edit: Edit the cameras settings and configuration

    • View exceptions: View exceptions generated by the asset associated with the camera

    • View trips: View the trip history of the asset associated with the camera

    • Move: Move the camera to a new asset

    • Remove: Remove the camera from its current asset without adding it to a new asset

You can also use the buttons at the top of the page to view the Video Rules and Video Recordings pages.

Adding a single camera

Learn how to manually add a single camera to your database, including selecting a device provider and entering a unique camera identifier.

Note: GO Focus family cameras automatically pair when connected with a GO device and in most cases don’t need to be manually added to your database.
  1. From the main menu, click Assets.
  2. Select the Cameras tab at the top of the page.
  3. Click + Cameras, then select Single camera.
  4. Enter information about your asset:
    • Camera provider – Select the provider of the device you are adding from the dropdown menu.

    • Camera unique identifier – This depends on the specific Camera provider:

      • For GO Focus family cameras, this refers to the Camera serial number.
      • For Xirgo, this refers to an identifier issued by Xirgo.
      • For Surfsight, this refers to the IMEI.
    • Asset — Specify an asset with which to pair the camera. This should be the asset in which the device is installed.

  5. Click the Save button.
Your new camera will now appear in the list on the Cameras tab of the Assets page.

Adding multiple cameras

Learn how to register multiple camera devices at once by entering their IMEI and asset serial numbers in a list format.

  1. From the main menu, click Assets.
  2. Select the Cameras tab at the top of the page.
  3. Click + Cameras, then select Multiple cameras.
  4. Add your devices using the following format:
    <Camera IMEI number>, <Asset serial number>
    <Camera IMEI number>, <Asset serial number>
    <Camera IMEI number>, <Asset serial number>

Use a line break after each pair of numbers.

  5. Select your Device provider from the dropdown list.
  6. Click Save.
Your new cameras will now appear in the list on the Cameras tab of the Assets page.

Editing camera settings

Learn how to customize camera settings such as audio volume and text overlay from the Asset Details page.

The settings available to edit depend on the camera model you are using. Check your product specifications if you are looking for a specific feature to make sure it's supported by your camera model.
  1. Navigate to Assets in the main menu.
  2. Select the Cameras tab at the top of the page.
  3. Select the camera you want to edit from the list.
Note: You can edit the settings for more than one camera at a time by selecting the checkbox beside each camera and clicking Edit in the top menu.
  4. On the Other Devices card of the Devices & Settings tab, adjust the settings you want to edit.
  5. Click Save.

If you can't see the specific setting you want to edit, click Show advanced settings.

Note:

Not all camera models support advanced settings. In these cases, the basic settings available for the camera model display directly on the Other Devices card.

Moving cameras between assets

Learn how to relocate a camera from its current asset to a different one using the Assets page and device settings.

  1. Navigate to Assets in the main menu.
  2. Select the Cameras tab.
  3. Select the camera you want to move from the list.
  4. On the Other Devices card of the Devices & Settings tab, click Move at the top of the camera card.
Note: If you don't see the Move button on the Other Devices card, click the More actions menu button (indicated by three vertical dots) and select it from the dropdown.
  5. Use the dropdown menu in the popup window to select a new asset for the camera.
  6. Click Move camera.
  7. Click Save.
If you move a camera between assets in your database, but don't move the camera between vehicles in your fleet, your camera data will be incorrectly associated with the new asset.

Removing cameras

Learn how to remove a camera from an asset if you want to use it in a new vehicle or no longer want video data from that asset.

Removing (sometimes called unpairing) a camera from an associated asset allows you to pair the camera to a new asset without removing archived videos or other data.

  1. Navigate to Assets in the main menu.
  2. Select the Cameras tab.
  3. Select the camera you want to remove from the list.
  4. On the Other Devices card of the Devices & Settings tab, click the More actions menu and select Remove.
Note: If you don't see the Remove button on the Other Devices card, click the More actions menu button (indicated by three vertical dots) and select it from the dropdown.
  5. Click Unpair camera.
  6. Click Save.
Note: Unpairing a camera from an asset does not automatically deactivate billing. Contact your telematics representative to terminate billing on your camera service.
