Database setup

To get started in MyGeotab, you'll need to create your own database.

There are three options to choose from when creating a database:
  • I'm a New Customer: Create a database as a new customer.

  • I'm a Partner: Create a database on behalf of a customer.

  • Create a demo database: Create a temporary database for demo purposes.

Tip: When creating your database, keep in mind that you'll need to install your hardware to begin seeing data.

Creating a database

Learn how to create a MyGeotab database as a new customer.

  1. Open the database registration page.
  2. Click Continue under I'm a New Customer.
  3. Add your contact information and create a password for your account on the Primary Contact Information tab. Click Continue.
    Note: Passwords must:
    • Be at least 12 characters

    • Have at least one lowercase and one uppercase letter

    • Have at least one number

    • Have at least one special character

    • Not contain emails or phone numbers

  4. Enter your organization's information on the Account Information tab. Click Continue.
  5. Enter a name for your database and your jurisdiction details on the Database Setup tab. Click Submit.
It may take a few moments to complete the set up process. You'll receive a success message when your database has been created. The link to your database will be sent to the email address you provided during registration.

Creating a database as a Partner

Learn how to create a database as a Partner for yourself or on behalf of a customer.

  1. Open the database registration page.
  2. Click Log in as a Partner under I'm a Partner.
  3. Select Continue under Create Database for Customer.
  4. Enter the customer's account information on the Account tab.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Enter the customer's organization information on the Organization Information tab.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Add the customer's contact information for the account on the Primary Contact Information tab.
  9. Click Continue.
  10. Enter a name for the database and the appropriate jurisdiction details on the Database Setup tab.
  11. Click Submit.

It may take a few moments to complete the set up process. You'll receive a success message when your database has been created. The link to your database will be sent to the email address you provided during registration.

Creating a demo database

Demo databases are populated with sample data. They let you explore MyGeotab features to see how they work and what they can do.

  1. Open the database registration page.
  2. Click Continue under Create a Demo Database.
  3. Add your contact information and create a password for your account on the Primary Contact Information tab. Click Continue.
    Note: Passwords must:
    • Be at least 12 characters

    • Have at least one lowercase and one uppercase letter

    • Have at least one number

    • Have at least one special character

    • Not contain emails or phone numbers

  4. Enter your organization's information on the Account Information tab. Click Continue.
  5. Select an expiration date for your demo database and specify your demo criteria on the Database Setup tab.
    Note: The options you select for your demo criteria determine the demo data provided in your database.
  6. Enter a name for your database and your jurisdiction details on the Database Setup tab. Click Submit.
It may take a few moments to complete the set up process. You'll receive a success message when your database has been created. The link to your database will be sent to the email address you provided during registration.

Logging in to your database for the first time

You can log in to your database for the first time using the link provided by email.

When registering a new database, you'll receive a link to your database at the address you provided during the registration process.

  1. Locate your welcome email in your inbox.
  2. Click Login to get started.
  3. Use the login details you created during the registration process:
    1. Enter the email address you provided as your username. Click Next.
    2. Enter the password you created as your password.
  4. Click Log in.

If you encounter problems logging in, check to make sure your log in information is correct. You can check your username and your database name in your welcome email.
