Auxiliary input data labeling

Learn how GO10 and GO10 Plus turn input signals into clear fleet data.

Data labeling assigns a real-world meaning to the electrical signals from an asset's built-in digital inputs. In MyGeotab, labels such as "Seatbelt Buckled," "PTO Engaged," and "Door Open" make the data easier to understand and use in fleet reports, driver safety scorecards, and near real-time monitoring.

Compatible devices

Data labeling is supported on these Geotab devices:

  • GO10

  • GO10 Plus

Setup warnings

Important:

Professional Setup Required: Configuration of data labelling requires physical access to your installed device. Ensure the vehicle is stationary and parked before beginning setup.

Important:

Data labelling configuration is an all-or-nothing process. If any input fails during setup, the entire configuration will be cancelled and no changes will be saved.

Warning:

Do not attempt to configure the device while the vehicle is in motion or in operation. Configuration must only be performed in stationary, securely parked vehicles.

Required hardware and connection

Data labeling requires the HRN-XGL06S6, an Auxiliaries (I/O pins) harness for GO10 and GO10 Plus.

For harness installation instructions, see the Auxiliaries - I/O Harness Install Guide .

Connect the auxiliary harness to the I/O port on the back of the GO device using the six-pin Molex connector.

Supported use cases

Choose a use case for each connected digital input during setup in MyInstall.

Use case

Meaning

Driver Seatbelt

Tracks whether the driver's seat belt is Buckled or Unbuckled.

Power Take-Off (PTO)

Tracks whether auxiliary equipment, such as a crane or pump, is Engaged or Disengaged.

Cargo Door

Tracks whether a cargo door is Open or Closed.

Generic Digital Input

Records the raw on/off signal without a specific label. It can be used alongside the other use cases on separate inputs.

If a use case is not supported, select Digital (generic). To suggest a future data-labeling use case, submit feedback through Geotab's community feedback hub .

Setting up data labeling in MyInstall

Set up and check input labels on GO10 or GO10 Plus in MyInstall.

Before you begin: Ensure the harness is wired into the vehicle and plugged into the device before powering on GO10 or GO10 Plus.

  1. Open MyInstall through MyAdmin or the MyInstall services . Select New Installation.
  2. Scan the device barcode or manually enter its serial number, starting with X, to locate GO10 or GO10 Plus.
  3. On the Check device status screen, select Set up in the Auxiliaries / GPIO section of the device card.

The data-labeling configuration page lists the available digital inputs.

  4. Choose the appropriate use case from the dropdown for each digital input to label.

Leave an input unassigned if it is not connected to anything in the vehicle.

    Note:

Assign one use case to each input. Driver Seatbelt, PTO, and Cargo Door can each be assigned to one input only. Digital (generic) can be selected for multiple inputs.

If returning to this screen during calibration, the use case selections are preserved.

Select the use case for each connected input.

Check the selected assignments before continuing.

  5. Calibrate the configured inputs.
    Important:

Before starting calibration, leave all seat belts in the vehicle unbuckled. Do not buckle any seat belt until the app instructs it.

Calibration detects the difference between the buckled and unbuckled states. Starting with a seat belt buckled can prevent the device from correctly learning the signal.

Select Continue on the use case selection screen. A loading screen appears for approximately 10 seconds while the device enters self-learning mode. Wait for this to finish before performing the physical calibration steps.

MyInstall guides each configured Driver Seatbelt, PTO, and Cargo Door input through calibration, one at a time. The screen identifies the input number being calibrated. For each input:

    Note:

The confirmation beeps come directly from the device. Stay close to it during calibration and use a reasonably quiet environment so the beeps can be heard.

    1. When prompted, set the input to the first state: buckle the seat belt, activate the PTO equipment, or open the cargo door.

Wait for a beep from the device confirming that the signal was detected.

MyInstall calibration prompt for the first seat belt input state.
    2. When prompted, set the input to the opposite state: unbuckle the seat belt, deactivate the PTO equipment, or close the cargo door.

Wait for a second beep confirming that calibration is complete.

MyInstall calibration prompt for the opposite seat belt input state.

MyInstall confirms when the input configuration is complete.

    Important:

Calibrate each input within 2 minutes. If calibration fails or times out, the entire configuration is canceled and no changes are saved. Restart from step 4 to assign the use cases. Select Back at any point during calibration; the use case selections are preserved.

  6. Verify the configured inputs on the Check device status screen.

After calibration, MyInstall returns to this screen and confirms that GPIO setup is complete. It displays the current labeled state of each input:

    Use case

    States

    Driver Seatbelt

    Buckled or Unbuckled

    PTO

    Engaged or Disengaged

    Cargo Door

    Open or Closed

    Generic Digital Input

    0 (off) or 1 (on)

Toggle each physical input and confirm that its state updates on screen. If it does not change immediately, select Refresh to fetch the latest reading from the device.

Next steps: To change a use case assignment later, return to the Auxiliaries (I/O) section in MyInstall at any time and update the data-labeling settings.

MyGeotab measurements

Review input states and the signals to view in MyGeotab.

Viewing labeled data

After installation is complete, Administrators can view labeled data in MyGeotab under the asset's activity details, safety scorecards, and related reports, including seat belt compliance, PTO usage, and door monitoring.

The Measurements feature displays direct signals from an asset and graphical information about events. For general instructions, see Measurements and Viewing measurements.
