Geotab is introducing Auto-Annotate Yard Moves, a new setting in HOS System Settings that automatically annotates short unidentified driving events occurring entirely within a yard or depot. Dispatchers and compliance administrators previously spent significant time manually reviewing and annotating unidentified driving events caused by internal movements — mechanics repositioning vehicles, yard shunts, and brief moves within a facility — that have no bearing on regulated on-road driving.

Why it matters
  • Administrators configure a zone type and a custom annotation label, and Geotab's background service automatically detects qualifying trips using GPS point-in-polygon containment and annotates both the Drive log and the on-duty log near real-time.
  • Manually annotated events are left untouched, so existing workflows continue without disruption.
  • Fewer unidentified driving events cluttering the compliance queue, less manual effort for dispatchers, and a cleaner HOS record that's easier to audit — especially for transportation, logistics, and distribution fleets with significant yard or depot activity.
  • Requires no additional cost and is available to any administrator with existing HOS System Settings access.
