Managing a fleet often goes beyond just vehicles; it involves keeping track of the valuable tools and machinery inside them. We understand that losing power tools or specialized equipment leads to project delays, wasted time searching for items, and expensive replacement costs.

To address this, we are introducing Small Asset Tracking, a new functionality that allows you to track smaller assets using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons directly within MyGeotab.

Seamless integration with your existing fleet

We have integrated third-party Bluetooth beacons into the platform as first-class devices, meaning you can add and configure them in MyGeotab just like a standard GO device. MyGeotab’s Small Asset Tracking supports compatible third-party beacons with public MAC addresses, offering flexibility and choice.

This solution leverages your existing network of Geotab GO devices equipped with IOX-Bluetooth to detect nearby beacons and report their presence. This allows you to consolidate your tracking needs into a single platform rather than managing a separate system for your tools.

Real-time visibility on the Map

Once configured, you can view the last known location of your beacon-tracked assets directly on the Map page. For a deeper look into an asset's movements, you can access beacon location history through the Trips History page. This ensures you always know if a piece of equipment is safely on a vehicle or if it was left behind at a job site.

Why it matters

This update directly addresses the financial and operational impact of lost or stolen equipment. By integrating small asset tracking into your telematics platform, you can improve inventory accuracy and ensure that the right tools are available when and where they are needed. This allows your team to focus on the job at hand rather than searching for misplaced assets.

Availability

This feature has begun rollout, and will be fully available to all users as of January, 2026.
