Many modern vehicles now utilize Ethernet networks, also known as Diagnostics over Internet Protocol (DoIP), to transmit data at significantly faster speeds than traditional CAN networks. To support these advancements, we are updating the installation requirements for the HRN-GS16K22-A 16-pin T-Harness kit. Installers must now ensure that the 2-pin Molex connector (which is connected by default) is disconnected for vehicles equipped with Ethernet.

Why it matters

Failing to disconnect this 2-pin connector can lead to significant interference with non-Geotab equipment. This includes potential issues with OEM software upgrades, scan tools, and other essential maintenance hardware. By following this updated procedure, you ensure that our telematics device integrates harmoniously with the vehicle's own diagnostic systems.

What you need to do

We recommend that all installation partners and fleet managers review their current inventory and future deployments of the HRN-GS16K22-A harness.

  • During installation: Ensure the 2-pin Molex connector is disconnected for all compatible vehicles.
  • For existing installations: If the connector was not disconnected on a compatible vehicle during the initial setup, we recommend doing so at the next available maintenance opportunity.

For detailed visual instructions on identifying and disconnecting this connector, refer to the DoIP Ethernet Bypass field service bulletin.
