How is idling being calculated in the Geotab Data Connector?

The MyGeotab product guide states:

A trip is defined as the vehicle's activity from the time it begins moving to the time it finishes a stop. A stop is recorded when the vehicle ignition is turned off, or when the vehicle has a speed of less than 1 km/h for more than 200 seconds. Short stops lasting less than 200 seconds are not counted as stops if the ignition is not turned off (such as stopping for red lights). A trip starts the first time a vehicle moves because vehicles may, at any time, be started and remain stationary for a period of time.

Does Data Connector take the same condition? idling = ignition ON and stopped (< 1km/h) for more than 200seconds

I heard back from our team on this and they told me:

"Hey all, according to the user guide utilization metrics are calculated in a specific way: "Utilization metrics: Utilization metrics such as GPS Distance, total engine hours, drive time, idle time, and stop counts are computed based on movement registered by the GPS reading on the telematics device." as confirmed with the GDC(Geotab Data Connector) team, this will be any idling instance, no time minimum. Speed of less than 1 km/h, ignition on."

Let me know if you have any follow up questions you would like me to ask.

Hello @CesarOrtiz-1781 ,

Thank you for asking your question in our community. I am pretty sure the data connector does use the same conditions you mentioned. I am double checking with our team just to be sure but from what I have seen that should be the case.

I will follow up with what I hear. Thank you for your patience while I check on this for you.

Have a good one!

That sounds a little ambiguous.

It is clear that it takes data sources for the calculation. But, are you saying that it takes any stop with ignition on?

If that is the case, then short stops in traffic lights would be considered as idling. Is that so?

Hey Cesar this is the response I got fro our team: "For the purposes of GDC and based on the way it's calculated, yes, that would all contribute to the idling for that time period (hour or day) that you are looking at"

Let me know if you have any other follow up questions.
