We are introducing Rule Limits to prevent complex, resource-heavy rules from slowing down your MyGeotab experience. This update ensures the platform remains fast and responsive by identifying high-impact rules and providing you with the tools to optimize them independently.

Key features include:

  • Automated archival notifications
  • A guided unarchive flow requiring rule adjustments
  • The ability to manually archive both stock and custom rules
How it works

1. Identify and warn: The system flags rules causing significant lag and issues a clear UI warning before performance is impacted.

2. Temporarily pause: To protect your productivity, problematic rules are temporarily paused. You’ll receive an immediate notification so you’re never left guessing. Image showcasing transparent rule management

3. Optimize & Reactivate: Follow guided steps to refine the rule. Once adjusted, it’s back online and delivering the critical exception data you rely on.

Manual archiving

You can manually archive both stock and custom rules to stay organized. Unlike automated pauses, manually archived rules can be restored instantly without needing edits, perfect for managing seasonal needs or temporary projects.

Why it matters
  • Peak platform performance: Prevents system lag caused by complex rules, ensuring a smooth experience for every user.
  • Reduced support volume: Guided "Fix & Reactivate" workflows empower customers to resolve rule issues independently without needing a support call.
  • Flexible data management: Manual archiving allows users to pause seasonal rules and stay within limits without permanently deleting historical data.
  • Proactive transparency: Clear notifications replace "backend" fixes, keeping administrators informed of their database health in real-time.
Availability

This update will roll out gradually over a four-week period starting April 29, 2024. Archiving a rule only stops the generation of new exceptions; all previously generated data and exception history remain fully available for your reports.

Note: This feature is automatically enabled. Database Administrators will receive in-app notifications if any specific rule requires attention.
