In an effort to improve the experience for integration partners, we're looking to get some feedback from you. Over the next few weeks / months, I'll be asking some small questions to help paint a clearer picture of use patterns from our top users.

What part of our SDK / API do you feel would benefit from added examples & documentation the most?

Is it possible to get Altitude information? The GPS record has latitude and longitude info, but can we get altitude somehow, and if yes, how do we get it via the API?

How do I get altitude information via the Geotab API?

How do I get the kilometres traveled by a vehicle since a specific date and time using the API? Specifically when odometer information isn't provided by the vehicle. [Question pulled from reseller email.]

How do I get total distance traveled by a vehicle from a specific date / time using the MyGeotab API?

Sure thing! What you want is called MultiCall: https://developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/guides/concepts/#multi-call Note: We only recommend using it for Get calls, not for Add, Set or Remove. If it encounters an error, it will abort part of the way through and return an error message.

Getting the data all at once

Hello <a href="/user/support-fleetyr-2132" data-id="2132" data-value="SFlee-2132" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@SFlee-2132</a> , Tucker is on the money here. Depending on the scale and amount of events you are tracking, it may be best to have a simple multicall structure to get the data points you need on demand, or it may be worth pulling all relevant entities via GetFeed and having a ready cache on hand as needed. NOTE: The getfeed methods can lead to a LOT of bandwidth usage that may be a deterrent. You can also look at using the Notification system attached to rules, as they can perform an HTTP Post when triggered and pass information that way. NOTE: This is a 'try once and move on' type system, so if the receiving end is not listening / receiving info for any reason, you will miss out on that info. We usually recommend an api method for this reason.

Joy and LP are both on target here. Geotab uses a session ID (returned as part of the Auth process), and it's good for up to 14 days for MyGeotab api calls. Are they looking to embed the MyGeotab map page directly in their webpage using the URL method found here: https://developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/guides/myGeotabUrls/  If yes, there is a section there that talks about Authentication at the bottom of that page. Once you have a session ID, you can pass it like this: https://my.geotab.com/DATABASENAME/geotab/checkmate/ui/map.html#credentials:(database:DATABASENAME,rememberMe:!t,sessionId:'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX',userName:'user@email.com') You can try it out here: https://geotab.github.io/sdk/software/js-samples/singleSignOn.html NOTE: You would need to setup a method within the page to do the authentication and pass the session ID as part of the request either by watching for failure or on a timed process.

Does a MyGeotab session ever time out for a user? Customer wants to embed a URL of the live map

Hello <a href="/user/translink-apiaccess-2010" data-id="2010" data-value="TAPI-2010" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@TAPI-2010</a> ,Yes, you are on the right track! The Log Record object is a collection of data that contains GPS coordinates, the device associated, the speed the device was moving at the time of the record and the time the data was collected by the device. There are a couple different methods for getting the data you want, you can use Get or Getfeed, with Get being the most likely best fit depending on the size of the fleet you are working with. There are a couple pages on our SDK that are worth reading: Get &amp; GetFeed are both referenced here: https://developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/apiReference/methods If you choose to use Get, I recommend you read up on our Pagination capabilities here: https://developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/guides/conceptsWith more reading on the GetFeed mechanism here: https://developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/guides/dataFeed As for the rate limits, you can see them at the bottom of the LogRecord reference:https://developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/apiReference/objects/LogRecord Happy Coding!

Can we use LogRecords API for a list of devices to get positions for last 24 hours from MyGeotab?

Good morning <a href="/user/barry-chen-2009" data-id="2009" data-value="BarryChen-2009" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@BarryChen-2009</a> , This is a nuance of the way the Get calls perform and how the search functionality works. If you only have a time frame search, the Get will return any actual records that appear within that time period for the diagnostic search you listed. No interpolation is done when a device search isn't included. If you include a device search, it will use the bracketing values and interpolate a value to match. If you are trying to get the Odometer value for all vehicles at a specific time, you would need to do a series of multi calls that calls each device specifically. I believe there are samples here in Community that address this as well that should provide some additional call.

Get StatusData api return different results when the request payload does not contain devicesearch id

Good morning <a href="/user/maximilian-kranabetter-1976" data-id="1976" data-value="MKran-1976" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@MKran-1976</a> , I believe you just need to swap out dateTime for date.  The list of possible sorts is on the left side in this section. https://developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/guides/concepts#sorting <img src="/forum/plugins/gcs-uploads/files/069Pd00000CbG3hIAF.png" alt="image" />

Sorting getFeed responses from MyGeotab SDK

Hello <a href="/user/maximilian-kranabetter-1976" data-id="1976" data-value="MKran-1976" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@MKran-1976</a> ! Life is about to get easier for you! MyGeotab has an object designed to exactly this! The <a href="https://developers.geotab.com/myGeotab/apiReference/objects/DeviceStatusInfo" target="_blank">DeviceStatusInfo </a>object only has the current state of the vehicle, so you don't ever get a stale record. It has more info than you want, but that's probably not going to be an issue. It supports both Get and GetFeed. With Get, you can get the most current information for an individual or collection of devices on demand. Using GetFeed, it will provide an update as information changes for a device. This object is great for updating any type of visualization or map, as it includes things like the bearing, any active exceptions and whether it's currently driving in addition to the location and speed. It's worth noting that there is NO historical lookup on this object, it's only the current status.

Good morning <a href="/user/vinicius-alvarenga-1917" data-id="1917" data-value="Vinicius-1917" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@Vinicius-1917</a> , It's possible to use Power Query to pull data from the MyGeotab API's into Power BI. Here is a doc that gives an example: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ikEi3HCaSugzaCkT78e1Lk5ySMctzfMak_rQazC6DUk/edit?usp=sharing This example is not Python, but the Power M query language that is provided by Power BI. This should still be able to accomplish your goal, but will require you to get familiar with the Power M language.

How can I connect Geotab API Python and Power BI

Hi <a href="/user/alex-jarvo-1469" data-id="1469" data-value="AJarv-1469" data-denotation-char="@" class="text-decoration-none mention">@AJarv-1469</a> , The API Adapter uses a Getfeed to build it's cache of Devices, refreshing on an interval set in the device cache section. You can see an explanation of the settings <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/12TIgTCuWVF_AYc3evsIms9VOecc1NT4P9Kn-eVg-H7k/edit#heading=h.vjygbfi1rrqi" target="_blank">here</a>.  If it's not an interval refresh setting at fault, I would verify the service account used by the adapter service has the proper group assignments to be able to view all the devices. This is the most common reason for an incomplete device list.

Geotab API adapter not pulling all devices into SQL database

There is a sample contained with the runner that will filter the results of DeviceStatusInfo which you can access here: https://geotab.github.io/sdk/software/api/runner.html#sample:device-location
