Group management

You can create, edit, and remove groups to manage your assets and users.

Your groups are completely customizable. With the exception of built-in groups, you can create, edit, or remove groups at any time. You can also move your groups within the group tree if you need to reorganize your assets and users.

Creating groups

Learn how to create groups to organize your assets, users, and zones.

In order to create and edit groups, you must have the appropriate clearances. Reach out to your Administrator to ensure you have access.
  1. Navigate to Groups & Rules > Groups in the main menu.
  2. Click the + icon under the desired Parent group.
  3. Enter a name for your group.
  4. Optional: Add a description for your group and select a color to represent it on the map.

  5. Click Save.
Your new group will be visible in the group tree and available to add to assets and users.

Editing groups

Learn how to edit groups to modify their properties.

  1. Navigate to Groups & Rules > Groups in the main menu.
  2. Select the group you want to edit and click Edit.
  3. Edit the name, description, or color of the group.

  4. Click Save.
Edits are immediately applied to groups.

Moving groups

Learn how to move groups within your group tree to reorganize your resources.

  1. Navigate to Groups & Rules > Groups in the main menu.
  2. Select the desired group you want to move and click Move.
  3. Select the parent group you want to move it under.
  4. Click the Move to selected button.
Only user-created groups can be moved. Built-in groups cannot be moved.

Removing groups

Learn how to remove groups from your database.

Before you remove a group, you must reassign all resources linked to it. If you try to remove a group that still has users or assets assigned, you'll receive an error message. This message lists the resources that are still in the group.

  1. Navigate to Groups & Rules > Groups in the main menu.
  2. Select the group you want to remove from the groups tree.
  3. Click Remove, and confirm your selection by clicking Remove in the confirmation dialog box.
    Note: If the group you are removing has subgroups nested within it, those groups will be moved to the original parent group when their original parent group is removed.
Removing a group from the group tree deletes the group permanently. There is no option to archive groups for later reuse.
