Exceptions
Exceptions are the data points generated by activity that breaks or triggers your rules.
By collecting exception data points, exception reports provide a summary of vehicle and driving behavior in your fleet. They can help you monitor compliance, identify areas for coaching, and improve overall fleet safety and efficiency.
You can generate exception reports on the Exceptions page. The page lists your exceptions and gives you the option to sort them by Asset or by Drivers. The page includes these key data points:
Incident count: The number of times a rule was triggered. Each instance where the conditions of the rule were met increases the count.
Address information: For exceptions related to distance, the address closest to the vehicle’s location at the start of the exception is shown.
Duration and distance: Each incident records its own duration and distance, allowing you to see the full extent of the exception.
If you have cameras paired with vehicles in your fleet, you can view videos of your exceptions using the Video recordings button on the Exceptions page.
You can also download your exception reports using the Reports dropdown menu at the top of the page.

The following are key points to keep in mind when using the Exceptions feature in MyGeotab.
Exception records in MyGeotab preserve the timezone of the device that produced the exception. For example:
If a user in Toronto (ET/UTC-5) runs a report that includes exceptions from Device A in the UK (UTC) and Device B in China (CST/UST+8) for the date January 1, the report will show data for Device A from January 1, 00:00 to January 2, 00:00 (UTC) and Device B from January 1, 00:00 to January 2, 00:00 (UTC+8)
- If a user selects the date range Yesterday, the data will display the data for each device from 00:00 to 23:59:59 the previous day in the time zone applicable to each device in the report.Note: The Timezone in built-in reports displays the time zone of the requester or user's time zone.
When using custom reports, users can access the Timezone column in the hidden data sheet to view data time zones.
Historical data for exceptions is pre-aggregated, in order to reduce the amount of real-time processing required to load data.
The following relative date ranges exclude the current day (today) by default:
