Using zones on the Map

Managing zones on the Map in MyGeotab in allows users to quickly create zones and dispatch vehicles to specific geographic areas.

The Map provides a convenient way to add new zones to your database and manage clutter by controlling zone visibility. It also facilitates dispatching by allowing administrators to dispatch zones directly to their assets or drivers.

Adding zones on the Map

Learn how to quickly add a zone directly on the Map.

  1. Select the Map in the main menu.
  2. Click the map where you want to add a zone.
  3. Select Add square zone here.
  4. Create a name for your zone.
  5. Choose your zone settings:
    1. Apply your zone to assets and drivers in your database using the Publish to groups dropdown. The default group is the company group.
    2. Add comments to your zone.
    3. Select whether you want the zone to be Visible on the map.
    4. Indicate the Zone type.
    5. Select whether you want the application to indicate stops inside the zone.
    6. Specify an end date for the zone if you want it to be a temporary entity in your database.

  6. Click Save.
New zones are immediately available in the list on the Zones page.

Hiding zones on the Map

Learn how to prioritize the information you need by hiding zones on the Map when you don’t need to see them.

  1. Navigate to the Map feature in the main menu.
  2. Select the Layers icon in the bottom right corner of the map.
  3. To quickly show or hide all zones, click the Zones button in the menu.

  4. To show or hide targeted zones, open the Zones submenu by clicking the arrow and use the list to select or deselect zones.
You can show zones again on the Map by selecting zones that have been deselected in the Zones submenu.

Dispatching zones to assets and users

Learn how to dispatch zones to assets and users to help dispatch assets to and from job sites in real-time.

  1. Navigate to the Map in the main menu.
  2. Locate the zone you want to dispatch using the map or search box and select it.
  3. Select Dispatch vehicle here in the popup. This opens the Messages page.

  4. Select one or more assets or users to receive the request.
  5. Click Compose message.
  6. Compose your message in the message box and click Send.
Your selected zone will be dispatched to the asset or user you selected.
