MyGeotab now displays geographic feature names that better match a user’s region when no country is configured for the account. This addresses changes in how the Google Maps API resolves shared features in the United States and Canada, including cases where Lake Ontario appeared as “Lake America” for some users.

This provides a long-term solution that helps users see geographic feature names aligned with their region’s naming conventions. Users can benefit from the update without any additional account setup.

Accounts with a country configured in System Settings > Country will see no change. That setting remains the primary signal for regional names.

When no country is configured, MyGeotab uses the user’s IP-based location as a fallback for each session. Results may vary between users or sessions on the same account. This is a display-only change and does not update account settings or database fields. Browser and device time zone are not used.

This update will be available to all MyGeotab users at the end of September, 2026.
