The IOX-BATTERY is a backup solution for GO9® devices and GO9 RUGGED™ devices (with adapter). The IOX™ starts working when a GO device is unplugged or loses the OEM vehicle/equipment power supply. The IOX acts as the primary power supply to keep the GO device operating and transmitting data to MyGeotab™. If the vehicle is driving, the IOX-BATTERY allows the GO device to transmit data to the Cloud for up to four hours. If the vehicle is parked, or ignition is off with no accelerometer activity, then the device switches to heartbeat mode and transmits location data every half hour for up to four days.

When the IOX is plugged into the GO device and vehicle ignition is on, the blue LED light illuminates, indicating the device is correctly connected and charging.
The charging LED turns off once the battery is fully charged.
The IOX charging LED remains off when being used to charge the GO device. The GO device LEDs turn on if the device enters tow mode when the vehicle is moving, or periodically during a heartbeat.

When a GO device is unplugged from the OBD port, the IOX-BATTERY assumes the load and starts powering the device. However, to ensure there are enough resources to power telematics services such as sending live data to the cloud, the IOX-BATTERY cuts power to all downstream IOXs in the chain.

No. The types of IOXs in the daisy-chain do not affect device runtime when powered by the IOX-BATTERY. Because the IOX-BATTERY is first in the chain, it promptly cuts power to all subsequent IOXs, so it can fully power the GO device during an unplug event. This will maximize runtime, while maintaining a water tight connection between the GO9 RUGGED and the IP67-rated IOX-BATTERY, when both units are exposed to water (e.g. municipal street sweepers).
The transfer of power from the vehicle to the IOX-BATTERY is instant. There is a small, microsecond delay, but the GO device does not lose power when it is unplugged from the vehicle.
The GO device knows when it has been unplugged, and whether the car is still moving after disconnection. The device uses its towing logic to enable GPS, and begin logging. If the device does not detect movement, it will begin to heartbeat every half hour for the first 96 hours, then continue to heartbeat every 23 hours.

If the device is unplugged while the ignition is off, the modem turns on and generates a device unplugged alert. If the device is unplugged while both the ignition and modem are on, then the modem generates a device unplugged alert and then turns off.
If another IOX is installed between the GO device and the IOX-BATTERY when the device is unplugged, the IOX-BATTERY will power both the GO device and the other IOX. In this scenario, core telematics unit runtime will be reduced due to additional battery drain.
The IOX-BATTERY is not compatible with GO7 and GO8 devices. If the IOX-BATTERY is used with the GO7 and GO8 devices, some logs may be missing.
The GO9 supports up to five IOXs in a daisy-chain, including the IOX-BATTERY.
There are two ways to protect the battery inside the IOX-BATTERY: sleep mode and ship mode. The IOX-BATTERY enters sleep mode two minutes after it has been disconnected from the GO device, and ship mode 48 hours after it has been disconnected from the GO device. You can check the state of charge on your IOX-BATTERY using the Engine Measurement feature in MyGeotab. IOX battery state of charge means the percentage of charge left on your IOX-BATTERY, similar to how your mobile phone reports battery percentage value. You can also check Telematics device powered by IOX-BATTERY to confirm the telematics device is being powered by the IOX-BATTERY. The measurements feature indicates when a GO device is disconnected from the vehicle.
From the MyGeotab main menu, navigate to Engine & Maintenance > Engine and Device > Measurements.
Click Options, search the vehicle your device is connected to, choose a time period, and then click Apply Changes.
The IOX battery state of charge and Telematics device powered by IOX battery are displayed separately. A value of 1 means the battery is providing power to the GO device. When the GO is plugged back into the vehicle, a value of 0 is displayed at the time it was plugged back in.
The IOX comes with a termination shunt installed in the expansion port. If you plan to install more than one IOX in a daisy-chain, you must remove the shunt from each device in the line, except for the last IOX, where the shunt must be kept in place and secured with a cable tie.
✱ NOTE: Failure to install the shunt in the last IOX may affect IOX communication.
