Records found in collisions and log data

Good day community, I hope you are all doing well. I am conducting research for one of my company's clients. While reviewing the "collisions and log data," I came across the following records that match the period when the GO device stopped sharing data:

  • GprsActivatedGprsResponseMode
  • GprsModemPowerOff
  • GprsModemDisconnecting
  • GprsModemPowerOn
  • InvalidGpsReason

My question is, what do the previous records refer to?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

@mrosa-1979  The GPRS messages all relate to the cellular modem, you usually see the GPRSModemPowerOff and GPRSModemDisconnecting when the GO unit is going to sleep and is no longer communicating any more, and the GPRSModemPowerOn when the GO unit is awaking up and starts communicating. These are pretty common to see when a GO unit is in sleep mode and just doing the regular heartbeat.

The InvalidGPSReason is related to the GPS status, usually this means that the GO unit has received an invalid GPS record. This is also pretty common to see occasionally, if you're getting a lot of these while the vehicle is driving that could indicate a problem.

Hello @mrosa-1979 ,

Thank you for asking your question in our community. I wanted to let you know I contacted one of our subject matter experts who should be able to give us the best definitions for these. I will follow up with you when I hear back from him.

Have a good one!

Tony, Eishi, how are you?

I thank you for your prompt response and support. Thanks to you, I have a clearer understanding of what those types of records indicate.

Regarding InvalidGPSReason, what kind of problems could cause the GO to show that type of record? Although the unit is currently communicating normally, I would like to better understand that concept for future reference.

It is hard to say what kind of issues just one or a few of these logs indicate. Really it isn't out of the ordinary to see these every once in a while. If you are seeing a lot while driving this could indicate bad coverage or failing hardware but it is hard to say without knowing other factors involved. These are debug logs so they do not typically mean much to an end user and are generally only used for troubleshooting on Geotabs end. I did get confirmations on the definitions from one of our subject matter experts. It is basically what Tony said but I will share what they told me anyway:

  • GprsActivatedGprsResponseMode - GPRS has swapped into response mode
  • GprsModemPowerOff - Modem is powering off
  • GprsModemDisconnecting - modem is disconnecting from network
  • GprsModemPowerOn- Modem is turning on
  • InvalidGpsReason- GPS log has been flagged as invalid

Let us know if you have any other questions. We are here to help.

Eishi, thanks so much for the information. This, along with what Tony mentioned, makes it clearer to me what these records are referring to
