We integrate with over 40 different fuel cards and on-site fueling providers so if you have multiple sources of fuel, you can still view all of it in one location. We validate location and fuel level changes automatically and give you tools to quickly investigate all discrepancies. If you want to see a demo, just send me an email at tucker@bluearrowmail.com and we can set something up next week! Thanks, Tucker

Monitoring PTO Activity on Street Sweepers with Geotab

Hi @PBala-10053 , Great question and one that comes up fairly often for mixed fleets. Thank you for asking it here in our community. You're right that GPS-only configured devices won't populate the Fuel & EV Usage Reports — those reports rely on fuel consumption data pulled from the vehicle's OBD/CAN bus, which plant and machinery assets often don't expose in the same way as on-road vehicles. Here are some options worth exploring depending on your equipment: 1. J1939/CAN-capable equipment Some larger plant assets (excavators, tractors with modern electronics) have J1939 CAN bus support. If the equipment exposes fuel consumption diagnostics on the CAN bus, a GO device wired directly into the J1939 connector — rather than a standard OBD port — may be able to read that data. Whether this is possible depends on the specific make and model and what the OEM exposes on the bus. 2.IOX-AUX with a fuel level sensor The IOX-AUX module allows you to connect analog sensors to your GO device. A fuel tank level sensor can give you tank level readings over time, from which consumption can be inferred — though it's not as clean as a direct consumption diagnostic. 3. Fuel transaction data import If your fuel is dispensed through fuel cards or a site-based fuel management system, Geotab supports importing fuel transaction data via the FuelTransaction API. This won't give you real-time telemetry but does allow you to track fill-ups and costs against assets in MyGeotab. 4. Managing it outside the platform For assets where none of the above is practical, many organisations do manage fuel for plant equipment through a separate fuel management system and use Geotab purely for location and utilisation (engine hours, idle time) on those assets. It's worth noting that off-highway and plant equipment is a recognised gap in the current platform — so I'd also love to hear from others in the community how you're handling this today, as Praveen asked. Real-world experience here is really valuable. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We are here to help. Have a great day! Eishi FUN

Plant Machinery Fuel Monitoring in Geotab

@Cristian.hdz.Prime24 Thanks for the response. We've actually reviewed the Detected Fill-Ups report and can see the warning icons for individual transactions. However, what we're looking for is a way to: Report on all exceptions in one view, rather than reviewing individual fill-ups one by one. Compare the odometer recorded at the point of sale with the telematics odometer reading at the time of refuelling. Validate that the vehicle was physically present at the fuel station at the time of the transaction (using geofence data). Identify transactions with missing or invalid vehicle registrations. Is there a standard report, add-in, API solution, or marketplace integration that can provide this type of fuel transaction reconciliation and exception reporting? At the moment, it appears that these validations can only be reviewed transaction-by-transaction, so we're interested to know how other fleets have automated this process.

Hi everyone, We're currently reviewing fuel reporting across our fleet and have identified that a number of our plant and machinery assets (tractors, mowers, excavators, etc.) are configured for GPS tracking only and therefore do not appear in the Fuel & EV Usage Reports because fuel consumption data is not being captured. I'm interested to hear how other organisations are managing fuel monitoring for plant and machinery assets within Geotab. Are you able to capture fuel consumption data for these types of assets? If so, what hardware or configuration are you using? Are there alternative Geotab-compatible solutions available for monitoring fuel usage on plant and machinery? Or is fuel monitoring for these assets typically managed outside the telematics platform? Any experiences or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Praveen

Hi everyone, We are currently looking at improving our fuel transaction reconciliation process and would appreciate some guidance. Is there a way within Geotab to identify exceptions or generate reports that compare:

Vehicle location data recorded by Geotab at the time of refuelling against the fuel station location recorded in supplier fuel transaction data.

Vehicle odometer readings reported by Geotab against the odometer readings captured within supplier fuel transaction records.

We are particularly interested in understanding whether Geotab provides:

An exception report or dashboard highlighting location discrepancies between telematics data and fuel transaction data.

A report or rule to identify significant odometer discrepancies between Geotab data and fuel card transactions.

Any built-in fuel reconciliation functionality or recommended Marketplace add-ins.

Best practices used by other fleets for validating fuel transactions and investigating potential anomalies.

Any advice or examples from fleets carrying out fuel transaction reconciliation would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Praveen Balagopalan

Hi all, We are looking at ways to distinguish actual sweeping activity from normal driving time on our street sweepers. Has anyone successfully used Geotab to monitor and report on PTO (Power Take-Off) activity, or other sweeper functions such as brush operation or vacuum operation? We would be interested to know:

What vehicle/equipment type you are monitoring.

How the PTO or operational status is being captured.

Whether any additional hardware or integrations were required.

How the data is displayed and reported within Geotab.

Any lessons learned or recommendations.

We understand some local authorities may already be using PTO monitoring for sweepers, tractors, or similar specialist vehicles, and would appreciate hearing about your experience. Many thanks in advance. Praveen Balagopalan
