In the United Kingdom, Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) are subject to lower speed limits than passenger cars on certain road types. Previously, MyGeotab evaluated all vans against standard car or truck limits, which left fleet managers blind to LCV-specific speeding violations. To close this compliance gap, we have introduced LCV-specific speed limit evaluations to help you accurately monitor safety and avoid costly fines. Screenshot 2026-05-22 at 4.37.59 PM.png

What's new?
  • LCV exception rules: Create rules that evaluate driver speed against UK-specific LCV posted limits, triggering an exception when a van exceeds limits like 60 mph on a dual carriageway.
  • Real-time driver coaching: Configure in-cab notifications to alert drivers the moment they exceed the specific LCV speed limit.
  • Speed Profile and reporting updates: Overlay LCV speed limits on routes in the Speed Profile page and view the exact limit used for evaluation in your Exception Reports.
  • Smart fallback system: If LCV-specific data is unavailable for a specific road segment, the system automatically falls back to standard car speed limits to ensure continuous monitoring coverage.

Why it matters

Accurate speed limit enforcement gives you a proactive tool to monitor and improve driver safety across your van operations. By correctly identifying LCV-specific speeding events, you reduce the risk of traffic fines, driver penalty points, and elevated insurance premiums. Ultimately, having clear visibility into road compliance helps protect both your drivers and your company's bottom line.

Availability

This feature is rolling out to all databases in the United Kingdom in May 2026.
