Geotab SDK introduction

Welcome, developers. This tour introduces the Geotab Software Development Kit, or SDK, and shows how you can use it to build fleet management solutions. Advance through the tour by selecting each message in a purple box. Think of the SDK as a toolkit for building new apps and features or extending and tailoring software you already use. Use the Geotab SDK with MyGeotab data to create solutions such as apps for smartphones & web, integrations for your existing third-party systems, add-ins for new functionality, and automations for repetitive tasks and time-saving scripts. These options help you tailor the software to your fleet's needs. Go to developers.geotab.com to enter the Geotab SDK site. The SDK site provides integration tools for multiple Geotab products. Browse the SDK's in-depth guides, complete API reference, and practical code samples. Use the guides to learn concepts, the API reference to look up functions and objects, and the samples to get started. The site also includes information on add-ins, data feeds, automation, and more. Choose the Geotab product for your integration. For this tour, select the MyGeotab SDK section to explore solutions that interact with or extend MyGeotab, Geotab's main fleet management platform. Start with Introduction for an overview of the SDK. Check Release Notes to see the latest updates and changes to the SDK. Use Guides to find articles that walk you through particular development topics and tasks. For example, explore the Data Feed guide to understand what a data feed is used for. Likewise, you can look through the guidance on Using MyGeotab URLs to learn about that topic. You can even find guides for Using GO Devices In Your Software and other topics. Under Add-Ins, learn how to configure and develop Add-Ins that live directly in MyGeotab and add custom functionality to the user interface. Consult API Reference as a resource for the methods and objects available in the SDK. In API Reference, you'll also find information on using MyGeotab SDK APIs to connect your systems and automate workflows. API Clients provides information about libraries and wrappers that can simplify how you interact with the APIs. Use the snippets and examples in Code Samples as a starting point for your development. The SDK Guides currently support JavaScript, .Net, and Java (Beta) implementations. Select API Runner to open it in your browser. Let's make your first API call directly in your browser with API Runner. Start by selecting Login in the top right. Use your MyGeotab credentials to log in to your database. Let's use the basic example API call to check whether communication with the API is working. Execute the call by selecting Run in the top right. Congratulations, you've made your first successful API call using API Runner. You can use the tool to test calls and understand API behavior. The current API Runner is evolving, and options for different languages, such as C#, are being added. Some basic JavaScript calls may be pre-filled. If you need more examples, refer to Code Samples while the team works on adding more default samples here. To delete a result and keep your workspace focused, select Clear for that specific old or irrelevant API response. Continue exploring the other Geotab SDK sections for additional resources. Congratulations! You've completed this tour of the Geotab SDK.
