Geotab supports the following Substance Spreader controllers:
Through the IOX, the Substance Spreader controllers transmit the following data to MyGeotab:
Although used for multiple purposes, the controllers are primarily targeted at organizations operating winter vehicles. Despite the slight differences in the data provided by different manufacturers, the underlying data types and engine measurement diagnostics are the same.
Devices using either IOX-DJ or IOX-COMSPREAD require, the ProPlus rate plan.
Name: IOX-DJ (Support Document)
Description: IOX Add-On compatible with GO6/GO7 for DICKEY-john
Which DICKEY-john controller units are supported?
The IOX-DJ supports the Control Point control system from DICKEY-john. These systems have a DB9 connector to connect the Control Point control system to the IOX-DJ.
✱ NOTE: DICKEY-john ICS2000 and FLEX4 systems are not supported.
DICKEY-john has customers ranging from independent farmers to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Amongst other markets, DICKEY-john provides systems for snow equipment vehicles, which Geotab has focused on. Control Points® 's resourceful three-channel system gives you the power to control granular and liquid material application rates, spinner speed, and spread width. |
Name: IOX-COMSPREAD (Support Document)
Description: IOX Add-On compatible with GO6/GO7 for Rexroth Compu-Spread spreader controllers
Which Compu-Spread controller units are supported?
The IOX-COMSPREAD supports the CS-440 and CS-550 spreaders. These systems have a DB9 connector to connect the CS-440 and CS-550 spreader to the IOX-COMSPREAD. The IOX-COMSPREAD only provides a female DB9 connector. Connection with the Compu-Spread unit requires special consideration. Please refer to the IOX-COMSPREAD Support Document for more information.
The CS-440 and CS-550 report data for the solid and liquid channels, as well as a third channel used for pre-wet materials.
As part of the Bosch Rexroth Canada Corporation, the Compu-Spread business group exclusively focuses on developing the industry's most advanced electronic and hydraulic spreader control systems. The integrated systems are designed to meet the specific and rapidly evolving needs of the snow and ice maintenance market throughout North America. |
Name: IOX-CRS (Support Document)
Description: IOX Add-On for Cirus Controls SpreadSmart Rx spreader controller
Which Cirus controller units are supported?
The IOX-CRS supports the SpreadSmart Rx and the Dual Spread controllers. The systems have a Female DB9 connector to connect the SpreadSmart Rx and Dual Spread controller to the IOX-CRS. Please refer to the IOX-CRS Support Document for more information.
The SpreadSmart Rx and the Dual Spread controller reports data for the solid and liquid channels, as well as a third channel used for pre-wet materials.
The GO device transmits two types of Material Spreader information:
All data, transmitted as Engine Diagnostic data, is available in the Engine Measurements Reports.
When a vehicle begins to spread material, the value of one of the MAC select substance properties changes from 0 to 1. When the spreading concludes, the value reverts back to 0.
Create Exception Rules to trigger notifications and alerts based on the values transmitted from the spreader units. Exception Rules also provide geographic information and allow you to view where substance spreading has occurred. Before you create an Exception Rule, you need to determine the data type transmitted by the spreader unit to MyGeotab.
Use the Engine Measurements Report (Engine & Maintenance > Engine and Device… > Measurements) to determine the name of the MAC select substance property transmitted by the unit. The table below lists all possible property names and values transmitted by the units.
Once you determine which MAC select substance properties are relevant to the installation, create an exception rule.
1 | Navigate to Rules & Groups > Rules from the navigation menu on the left. |
2 | Click Add, located at the top of the web page. |
3 | Select the Conditions tab and click Add engine. |
4 | For Type, click Measurement or Data. |
5 | For Diagnostic, select the appropriate MAC select substance. |
6 | For Value, click Over and enter 0. |
7 | Click Add to finish editing the Exception Rule, then click Save. |
The substance spreader units also report travel distance (for DICKEY-john only), time spent (DICKEY-john and Rexroth only), and amount of material spread. The GO device detects changes to the parameters as the material is spread or blasted. As the parameters change, the GO device captures the increments and transmits the data to MyGeotab. Please note, when the material is spread or blasted:
As the material is spread or applied, the relevant measurements data accumulates.
For the DICKEY-john units, Customers can set 4 granular materials and 4 liquid materials — with both regular and blast applications. The Rexroth units, set up similar to the DICKEY-john units, also support a third channel for pre-wet applications with 4 material types — again with both regular and blast applications.
Because the spreader units are independently configured by the customer, Granular 1 may be salt, sand, or a mixture of the two — depending on the setup of the in-vehicle units. It is common practice to configure all fleet vehicles in the same manner. Granular 1 and Granular 2 are the most common materials chosen — Granular 1 represents salt and Granular 2 represents sand.
The following engine status codes, depending on unit configuration, are found in MyGeotab. Only diagnostics relating to solid materials are shown, but the diagnostics for liquid and pre-wet material are identical.
