What causes maintenance severity to go from low to medium?

Here is what I found (thanks Ace!):

1. Scheduled Maintenance

  • Low: The scheduled maintenance is not approaching its due date or limit.
  • Medium: The vehicle is approaching its due date or limit. Specifically, it transitions to medium when it is within 500 miles, 50 engine hours, or 10 days of the scheduled maintenance being due.
  • High: The scheduled maintenance is past due.

Hello @kevincampbell ,

Thank you for asking your question in our community. I want to make sure I'm referring to the same severity field, since MyGeotab uses severity in a few maintenance-related areas.

If you mean fault severity, it is normally determined by the fault code's definition and diagnostic mapping. A fault does not generally become more severe simply because it repeats. A new fault, a different fault code, or updated diagnostic information may cause the displayed severity to change.

If you mean the Maintenance Overview or a work request, that may use a separate risk or priority calculation based on factors such as recent severe faults, upcoming maintenance, predictive insights, or work-request priority.

The current maintenance documentation is available here:
- Maintenance overview (https://support.geotab.com/help/mygeotab/maintenance-and-diagnostics/maintenance/maintenance-overview)
- Engine faults related to telematics devices (https://support.geotab.com/help/mygeotab/maintenance-and-diagnostics/maintenance/engine-faults-related-to-telematics-devices)

If you can share the page or report where you see “Low” changing to “Medium,” I can narrow down the exact rule being applied.

Hope that helps!
